We're looking for a Field Test Engineer with experience in vehicle telematics , communication protocols , and diagnostic tools to ensure robust and seamless software/firmware updates in modern trucks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute OTA testing on vehicles at PACCAR plants and customer sites.
- Validate software updates, ECU firmware reprogramming, and diagnostic communications.
- Develop and execute test plans and scenarios for wireless/remote software updates.
- Identify, log, and track software defects using diagnostic tools and defect tracking systems.
- Use tools like CANoe to capture and analyze in-vehicle network traffic and communication logs.
- Collaborate with software, telematics, and backend teams to troubleshoot update issues and verify rollback mechanisms.
- Create OTA test packages and update ECUs via OBD tools or OTA systems.
- Drive traceability of requirements through development, testing, and defect resolution.
- Maintain accurate and detailed test documentation, including logs and test results.
- Participate in triage calls and support the resolution of defects.
- Monitor CAN Bus communication, node acknowledgements, and diagnostic message priorities.
- Conduct field testing and validation on customer trucks and report findings effectively.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in OTA testing or automotive systems validation.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle telematics , OTA update processes , and ECU communication .
- Hands-on experience with CAN tools like CANoe and understanding of CAN protocol.
- Familiarity with OBD tools , diagnostic systems, and vehicle firmware management.
- Experience in creating test cases, logging defects, and participating in defect triage.
- Understanding of Telematics Control Units (TCU) and their role in OTA workflows.
- Good documentation skills for test reports and defect logging.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, QA, and backend teams.
- Must be able to travel 50-75% to PACCAR plants and local dealerships in the DFW area ; occasional travel to Kenworth facilities (~25%).
- Experience in automotive network systems .
- Familiarity with connected vehicle services , over-the-air strategies, and cloud integration.
- Experience with diagnostic tools and traceability in requirements-based testing.
