nAre you passionate about preparing nourishing meals for children and creating a positive mealtime experience? We are looking for a warm, reliable, and health-conscious In-House Chef to join our team and support the wellness of our little learners through wholesome food!
nAt The Learning Experience, we believe that healthy eating habits start early. Our in-house chef plays a vital role in ensuring children aged 1–4 enjoy nutritious, scratch-prepared meals that are thoughtfully planned, responsibly sourced, and prepared with care.
nOur Food Philosophy
nWe are committed to:
nOffering freshly prepared, in-house meals and snacks using simple, clean ingredients.
nServing foods that are organic, minimally processed, and free from harmful additives.
nUsing available kitchen equipment (convection microwave ovens, crock pots, blender, refrigerator, freezer) in line with NYC DOH Article 47 regulations.
nMeeting the nutritional needs of children aged 1–4 with age-appropriate textures.
nIngredients That Are Not Permitted:
nNuts or nut-based products (we are a nut-free facility)
nPork or pork-derived ingredients
nRaw or undercooked eggs
nArtificial dyes (e.g., Red 40, Yellow 5)
nArtificial and "natural" flavors
nHigh fructose corn syrup
nDextrose
nHydrogenated oils / trans fats
nMSG or sodium nitrates
nBHA, BHT, or other synthetic preservatives
nExcessive salt, sugar, or additives
nAll food items should include no more than 3–5 ingredients. We encourage sourcing clean-label, whole food ingredients and providing organic options wherever possible.
nResponsibilities Include:
nPrepares sauces and meals from scratch; creativity and fun food ideas are encouraged!
nSupport family events with food prep and event planning
nPlan weekly menus using our online template; submit by Thursday for family distribution on Friday
nPrepare daily meals/snacks in-house for children ages 1–4
nMorning food prep and kitchen setup (details TBA)
nClean kitchen and sanitize surfaces at end of shift
nMaintain cleanliness and restock basics in the staff lounge
nTrack inventory and monitor food storage
nOrder supplies and stay within budget
nFollow NYC DOH Article 47 health & safety standards
nTrack and communicate food allergies with teachers daily
nFollow safe food handling, sanitation, and storage practices
nCollaborate with leadership to maintain inventory records
nCommunicate with parents and staff professionally
nAdapt to the daily needs of the childcare center
nRequirements:
nHigh School Diploma or equivalent
n2+ year of experience in food preparation and cooking
nValid NYC Food Handler’s Certificate (or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire)
nPassion for children’s health and nutrition
nExcellent organization and cleanliness standards
nAbility to lift a minimum of 30 lbs
nComfortable with food prep using convection microwave ovens and crock pots
