Job Description:
REQUIREMENTS:
*Must have current National Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification
*Must be willing to work in all four of our locations (Myrtle Beach, Conway, Loris and Murrells Inlet)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Adheres to the department policy, time, and attendance guidelines.
- Wears employee ID badge and follows dress code policy.
- Obtains missing medical records, lab, pathology, and x-ray reports from previous visit before next physician visit.
- Escorts patients to physician exam area.
- Ensures pre-exam labs and x-rays are obtained according to lab and x-ray protocols.
- Obtains vital signs and weight. Records height on initial visit and subsequently as needed.
- Assists with maintaining vaccination and medication records.
- Assists with renewing prescriptions.
- Verifies necessary information and records in the medical record.
- Prepares patient for exam, depending on patient and clinical condition.
- Assists patients with dress as appropriate for the exam. Another Medical Assistant/LPN presence may be required in the exam room for medical/legal purposes or to facilitate expediency in patient care.
- Responds to the expeditor in a timely fashion.
- Tracks patient through entry to next point of service.
- Coordinates and schedules patient appointments, relaying necessary messages to staff.
- Schedules tests, shots, and appointments as requested.
- Maintains and updates current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly, and appointments are confirmed.
- Answers questions regarding patient appointments and testing.
- Charts records as needed for communication.
- Transfers patients from physician to oncology nurse to allow physician to turn attention to other matters. Escorts patients through the clinic as needed. Completes items requiring clinical follow up.
- Completes billing events before end of shift accurately and timely.
- Remains in the pod dictation area until all patients have been seen and all tasks are completed including reminders.
- Administers shots to patients in the exam room, under the direction of a physician or nurse. The MA must ensure that a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or nurse has assessed the patient and given direct instruction prior to the administration of shots.
- Performs data entry of labs after physician reviews.
- Reviews registration sheet with new patients to ensure completion of history. Enter medications in EMR/chart. Reviews allergies and enters allergies in EMR/chart. Completes shot record. Offers vaccinations when needed under the direction of a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or nurse. Obtains vital signs and weight and height. Dictates record of visit as needed for documentation.
- Assists the lab and obtain blood from patients using Venipuncture or Fingerstick technique.
- Tests specimens for hematology, urinalysis, and processes all laboratory specimens.
- Complies with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the clinical laboratory.
- Performs troubleshooting of the hematology analyzer, including quality control as required.
- Reports to Team Coordinator or designee in their absence, once all work in the pod is complete.
- Attends staff meetings/Cross functional Team meetings.
- Complete daily checklists/OSHA checklist.
- Provides orientation and training to Medical Assistant/LPN new hires when directed.
- Manages high levels of stress and has the ability to multi-task.
Education: High school or equivalent.
Experience: Prefer three (3) years of medical experience.
Certification: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
