Thompson Hine LLP, an AmLaw 200 firm recognized for our dedication to innovation and inclusion, is looking for an ambitious Intellectual Property Docketing Specialist to support our team in providing exceptional Intellectual Property (IP) docket and case management services. This opportunity is available in our Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, or Dayton offices.
In this critical role, you will assist our timekeepers and secretaries by ensuring the efficient and precise management of IP dockets. We encourage candidates with diverse backgrounds in Docketing, Intellectual Property support, Legal Assistance, or related experience to apply.
Responsibilities Include:
- Reviewing and responding swiftly to inquiries in the IP Docket mailbox, ensuring all requests are handled accurately and within 24 hours.
- Entering and maintaining data in the IP docket software database, including calculating action due dates and making necessary entries.
- Attaching relevant documents related to matters or actions within the IP docket software and linking them with the Document Management System.
- Communicating effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and secretaries regarding case status and updates through direct engagement with courts and agencies.
- Conducting online research via public access websites, Patent Center, USPTO, and Foreign PTOs.
- Utilizing your knowledge of patent and trademark documentation and procedures for both domestic and international applications.
- Generating and distributing daily reminders and tailored reports for the team.
- Providing essential follow-up inquiries with timekeepers to guarantee deadlines are met.
- Identifying and recommending improvements to IP docket policies and procedures for enhanced service delivery.
- Offering backup support to the Docket Manager as needed.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Three to five years of experience in Law Firm IP Docketing or related IP fields.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient computer skills, including Windows and data entry, with experience in docket software such as PATTSY, CPI, or Foundation IP preferred.
- Strong understanding of patent and trademark processes in the U.S. and abroad.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with attorneys, staff, and court officials.
- Independent working capability with acute attention to detail.
- General familiarity with USPTO and Foreign PTO rules.
- Commitment to confidentiality.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication and teamwork.
- Ability to manage tasks under pressure and adapt work hours as required.
- Must be able to work at specified locations and hours approved by the Manager.
In our Chicago office, compensation varies due to market considerations, position responsibilities, and candidate qualifications. The starting salary range for this position in Chicago is $63,500 to $90,000.
