Overview:
As an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), you will play a key role in providing advanced chairside assistance to dentists and contributing to the delivery of high-quality dental care. This position involves expanded clinical responsibilities beyond traditional dental assisting, requiring a combination of skill, precision, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
Responsibilities:- Provide direct chairside assistance to dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative work, extractions, and other advanced treatments.
- Ensure the efficient workflow in the dental operatory.
- Perform expanded functions related to restorative dentistry, such as placing and contouring amalgam and/or composite fillings under the direction of the dentist.
- Assist in the fabrication and placement of temporary crowns and bridges.
- Take and process dental X-rays as required by the treatment plan.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols.
- Take impressions for study casts and other dental models.
- Fabricate and trim models as needed for various dental procedures.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-operative care, and preventive measures.
- Answer patient questions and address concerns related to dental procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including charting treatments, procedures performed, and other relevant information.
- Ensure compliance with record-keeping regulations.
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program.
- Certification as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) in accordance with state regulations.
- Compliance with any additional state-specific requirements for expanded functions.
- Certification in dental radiography, with the ability to take and process dental X-rays.
- Proficiency in performing expanded functions, including restorative procedures, impressions, and orthodontic assistance.
- Familiarity with relevant dental instruments and equipment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients and the dental team.
- Ability to work collaboratively with dentists, hygienists, and other team members.
- Adaptability to the dynamic nature of a dental practice.
- Adherence to ethical standards, patient confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.
