Job Description
Positions are assigned to the school to work directly with students and staff to assist with fostering and maintaining a safe and supportive environment. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Assists the administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for the school community.
  • Serves as a liaison with counselors and outside agencies.
  • Under the general supervision of the school administration, assists in screening visitor access to school facilities, maintaining student class attendance, and other responsibilities related to school safe and supportive operations.
  • Provides tiered interventions, including social-emotional learning for students, addressing social skills, prevention, de-escalation, and restoration/conflict resolution techniques.
  • Utilizes and implements appropriate crisis intervention procedures as needed. Develops and implements crisis de-escalation intervention strategies and techniques. Follows school system guidelines in intervening in physical altercations as needed.
  • Collaborates with school staff to establish school-wide procedures for discipline referrals.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of a school code of conduct and a school wide behavior management plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent required. College coursework in education, psychology, child development or adolescent studies, sociology, or related fields preferred.
Experience in work involving the welfare and safety of students or others, preferably in an educational environment. Experience in safety and security of persons and property is desirable.
Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
Licenses and Certificates:
First aid and CPR certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices for ensuring the safety and welfare of other.
  • Ability to work with students in a variety of settings
  • Skill and ability in building positive relationships with students and families
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquire specific knowledge of school and BCPS policies and procedures on student attendance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff, and to understand the role of each staff member having responsibility for student attendance, behavior, and building safety.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with staff and students and to perform assigned tasks under administrator supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.
  • Possession of technology competency
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
The work of this class is performed in a school environment. Work includes contact with students with behavioral concerns.
The work of this class may entail lifting heavy objects and frequent walking and bending.
Salary: $25.00 per hour (contractual)

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
