The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by

n

supplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and

n

hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility

n

in the country, with nearly 5,500 employees. DEP delivers more than 1.1 billion gallons per day of

n

the highest quality drinking water to 8.3 million NYC residents and more than 1 million people in

n

Upstate New York and has a wastewater conveyance and treatment system capable of processing over

n

1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day to protect the environment and the city's surrounding

n

waterways.

n

The Bureau of Environmental Compliance's mission is the enforcement of environmental laws and

n

regulations, which affect the health and safety of the public and environment. Specifically, the

n

bureau enforces the City's Asbestos regulations as well as the Air and Noise Codes. The Bureau is

n

comprised of the Division of Air & Noise Policy, Permitting and Enforcement and the Asbestos

n

Control Program. These divisions respond to; air and noise code complaints; inspect and track

n

asbestos removal projects; and foster the goals of environmental protection.

n

Air permitting engineer will work on projects including air permitting, assessments, and compliance

n

and perform technical duties in support of the New York City Air Pollution Control Program.

n

Responsibilities:

n
    n
  • Conduct engineering analyses and draft preliminary reports on innovative technologies submitted
  • n
n

to the Department.

n
    n
  • n

    Review applications for registering and operating combustion and industrial process equipment.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Perform on-site inspections of combustion and industrial sources, utilizing testing instruments

    n
  • n
n

to assess equipment for permitting.

n
    n
  • n

    Create technical reports on field inspections and other regulatory or technical matters.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Inspect premises and construction sites to verify compliance with permits, plans, and

    n
  • n
n

specifications.

n
    n
  • n

    Evaluate installations to ensure adherence to required specifications, plans, and permits.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Lead air quality compliance assessments.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Oversee and provide expert guidance on air quality projects

    n
  • n
n

Manage industrial source registrations, work permits, and operation certificates, while training

n

and potentially supervising staff..

Qualifications

n
    n
  1. n

    A baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental engineering work; or

    n
  2. n
  3. n

    A baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials

    n
  4. n
n

engineering from an accredited college and master’s degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college.

n

A master's degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in environmental engineering.
