Job Description
nThe NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by
nsupplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and
nhazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility
nin the country, with nearly 5,500 employees. DEP delivers more than 1.1 billion gallons per day of
nthe highest quality drinking water to 8.3 million NYC residents and more than 1 million people in
nUpstate New York and has a wastewater conveyance and treatment system capable of processing over
n1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day to protect the environment and the city's surrounding
nwaterways.
nThe Bureau of Environmental Compliance's mission is the enforcement of environmental laws and
nregulations, which affect the health and safety of the public and environment. Specifically, the
nbureau enforces the City's Asbestos regulations as well as the Air and Noise Codes. The Bureau is
ncomprised of the Division of Air & Noise Policy, Permitting and Enforcement and the Asbestos
nControl Program. These divisions respond to; air and noise code complaints; inspect and track
nasbestos removal projects; and foster the goals of environmental protection.
nAir permitting engineer will work on projects including air permitting, assessments, and compliance
nand perform technical duties in support of the New York City Air Pollution Control Program.
nResponsibilities:

- Conduct engineering analyses and draft preliminary reports on innovative technologies submitted n
to the Department.

Review applications for registering and operating combustion and industrial process equipment.

Perform on-site inspections of combustion and industrial sources, utilizing testing instruments

to assess equipment for permitting.

- n
Create technical reports on field inspections and other regulatory or technical matters.

Inspect premises and construction sites to verify compliance with permits, plans, and

specifications.

Evaluate installations to ensure adherence to required specifications, plans, and permits.

Lead air quality compliance assessments.

Oversee and provide expert guidance on air quality projects

Manage industrial source registrations, work permits, and operation certificates, while training
nand potentially supervising staff..

nQualifications

A baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental engineering work; or
n n - n
A baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials
n n
engineering from an accredited college and master’s degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college.
nA master's degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in environmental engineering.
