Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical engineering design for retrofit, environmental, and new construction projects.
- Lead detailed design tasks including:
- Pipe sizing, routing, and material selection
- Pipe support design and valve selection
- P&ID development and equipment layout
- Equipment specifications and datasheets (valves, pumps, etc.)
- Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets .
- Provide technical direction to designers and junior engineers .
- Perform hydraulic calculations and ensure design compliance with codes and standards .
- Oversee checkout and startup support as needed.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of design documents and drawings.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with plant staff, design engineering teams, and vendors .
Education & Licensing
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
- PE License is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design for power generation or heavy industrial facilities.
- Proven ability to lead detailed mechanical design activities from concept through construction.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and design codes .
- Proficiency with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Significant experience with:
- P&ID development and review
- Piping system layout, pipe sizing, and routing
- Material and equipment selection (tanks, pumps, valves, balance of plant equipment)
- Pipe support design and hydraulic calculations
- Experience preparing inquiry packages and datasheets .
- Familiarity with Pipe-Flo or similar hydraulic analysis software preferred.
- Working knowledge of process equipment (valves, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, etc.).
- Experience with relief valve and control valve sizing .
- Ability to lead and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and team leadership skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
