Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer SR 1 is a senior-level engineering role focused on mechanical design and engineering leadership for small to medium retrofit, environmental, and new generation projects . This position requires deep expertise in power generation or heavy industrial facility design , with a focus on piping systems, equipment layout, and hydraulic calculations. The ideal candidate is capable of leading design activities , making sound decisions independently, and providing technical oversight to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical engineering design for retrofit, environmental, and new construction projects.
  • Lead detailed design tasks including:
    • Pipe sizing, routing, and material selection
    • Pipe support design and valve selection
    • P&ID development and equipment layout
    • Equipment specifications and datasheets (valves, pumps, etc.)
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets .
  • Provide technical direction to designers and junior engineers .
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and ensure design compliance with codes and standards .
  • Oversee checkout and startup support as needed.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of design documents and drawings.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with plant staff, design engineering teams, and vendors .
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Licensing
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • PE License is preferred.
Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical design for power generation or heavy industrial facilities.
  • Proven ability to lead detailed mechanical design activities from concept through construction.
Technical Skills & Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and design codes .
  • Proficiency with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Significant experience with:
    • P&ID development and review
    • Piping system layout, pipe sizing, and routing
    • Material and equipment selection (tanks, pumps, valves, balance of plant equipment)
    • Pipe support design and hydraulic calculations
  • Experience preparing inquiry packages and datasheets .
  • Familiarity with Pipe-Flo or similar hydraulic analysis software preferred.
  • Working knowledge of process equipment (valves, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, etc.).
  • Experience with relief valve and control valve sizing .
