Job Description - Fleet Mechanic
Reports to: Pro Crane Manager
Hours per week: 40 minimum
Non-Exempt, Hourly

  1. General Summary of the Position
Service fleet and a wide range of equipment including gas welders, golf cars, small utility tractor, forklifts, man-lifts, telehandlers, service trucks, semi-tractor/trailers and cranes. Perform a variety of inspections, routing maintenance, repairs as well as diagnostic problems. Experience working on Semi trucks and heavy equipment. Documenting vehicle and equipment maintenance records and evaluating information to remain in compliance with laws, regulations or standards in either written or electronic form. Communicating information with Pro Crane manager, project managers, foreman, and peers either by phone, written, or e-mail form.
  1. Essential Functions
  2. Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, tune-ups and lubricating equipment and machinery. Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including but not limited to belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings and other potentially troublesome areas.
  3. Test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure proper working order.
  4. Inspect, repair and/or service brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, booms, rigging, air conditioning, heating, engine-cooling, electrical, hydraulic and other important parts to ensure they are in proper working order and adjust/align/tighten/reassemble or repair as necessary. Outsource repairs as appropriate.
  5. Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  6. Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts and specified safety devices.
  7. Use and care of hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, jacks and hoists.
  8. Attach test instruments to equipment and read dials/gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
  9. Assist the Crane Operators in Rigging
  10. This position will be a backup CDL truck driver for Pro-Crane and EBM Construction.
  1. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    1. Good knowledge of machines and tools including basic designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
    2. Determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
    3. Skilled in troubleshooting and repairing machines or systems using the needed tools and equipment.
    4. Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions in English for efficiency in cooperative work assignments, to follow and promote safe work practices, and prepare and submit consistent, accurate reports and time keeping.
    5. Competence in maintaining vehicle and equipment maintenance records as well as good computer skills.
    6. Mindful of company and safety policies/practices/procedures to keep people, equipment, vehicles and shop area organized, clean, safe and free from hazards.
    7. Ability to see and hear hand and voice signals/machine noise respectively for performing maintenance or diagnosing problems.
    8. Performs other duties as assigned.
  1. Education, Training and Experience
    1. Associates or 2-year degree in diesel technology (truck or ag) or equivalent experience.
    2. CDL (commercial Drivers License) or the ability to obtain one
  1. Work Context
    1. Regularly spend time using hands to handle and control tools, parts, controls and equipment.
    2. Willingness and ability to perform work following verbal and written instructions.
    3. Wear common protective and safety equipment such as steel-toed boots and safety glasses as required, as well as hearing protection, gloves and/or hard hats.
    4. Will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity.
    5. Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
    6. Noise level is frequently loud.
    7. Occasionally exposed to contaminants such as gasoline, diesel, solvents, paint, gasses, dust and odors.
  1. Special Requirements
    1. Valid driver's license required.
    2. CDL required within 30 days of hiring.
    3. Pass PPPO, General Physical and Drug Screen.
    4. Must be 18 years old or older.
