The expected salary range, if Hired for the Enviornmental Health Specialist I Grade 20, upon hire is $67,672-$77,822
The expected salary range, if hired for the Environmental Health Specialist II grade 23, upon hire is $76,742-$90,910
The expected salary range, if hired for the Enviornmental Health Specialist III Grade 24, upon ire is $80,070-$112,960.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The mission of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services is to build a healthy, safe and strong community. The Division of Public Health Services is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist to serve in the office of Licensure and Regulatory Services to further the mission by ensuring safety through education and regulatory compliance for promoting well-being within the community. Position may be underfilled as an Environmental Health Specialist I or II.
What You'll Be Doing
The position will conduct routine inspections of food service facilities, pools, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, private educational institutions, tanning facilities, and camps for compliance with the Maryland State and Montgomery County Laws and Regulations.
The position is responsible for conducting foodborne outbreak investigations and investigating complaints from the public.
The position is responsible for enforcing the Montgomery County No-Smoking, Trans Fat and Menu Labeling laws, understanding HACCP, and responding to rodent and other nuisance complaints.
This work requires long periods of standing and/or walking, sometimes over rough or uneven surfaces; repeated bending, stooping, or crouching; and some lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
These positions require the ability to work during non-business hours and MUST work either a Saturday or Sunday every other weekend (two Saturday's a month/two Sunday's a month), as well as attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.
You will be responsible for driving to and from locations around Montgomery County. You will need to have a state driver's license.
Minimum Qualifications
If hired for the Environmental Health Specialist I:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in one of the physical, environmental health or biological sciences, engineering, or agriculture, chemical
Experience: One (1) year of experience in environmental health investigatory work.
Substitution: Registration as a Professional Environmental Health Specialist in the State of Maryland may be substituted for the Education requirement.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: There will be no substitutions for this section.
Positions in this classification: Will be required to possess and maintain a motor vehicle operator's license valid Class "C" (or equivalent) from the applicant'' state of residence.
Current registration as a Professional Environmental Health Specialist in the State of Maryland or possession of a Certificate of Eligibility or Health Specialist In-Training Certificate for such registration is required at the time of application. Incumbent must maintain a current registration, which may include continuing education requirements throughout the course of employment
If hired for the Environmental Health Specialist II:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in one of the physical, environmental health or biological sciences, engineering, or agriculture, chemical
Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to the class of Environmental Health Specialist I with Montgomery County including a full range of investigative and enforcement duties or an equivalent position with broad responsibility in appropriate specialized area.
Substitution: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: There will be no substitutions for this section.
Positions in this classification: Will be required to possess and maintain a motor vehicle operator's license valid Class "C" (or equivalent) from the applicant's state of residence.
Must possess and maintain a registered Environmental Health Specialist License Health Specialist In-Training Certificate, or Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists, and in conjunction with the State law. Incumbent must maintain a current registration, which may include continuing education requirements.
Certifications: Some positions may require possession of a Certified Pest Control operator's license.
If hired for the Environmental Health Specialist III:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in one of the physical, environmental health, or biological sciences, engineering, or agriculture. chemical
Experience: Three (3) years of professional level experience in environmental health investigatory/enforcement work equivalent to performing duties comparable to the class of Environmental Health Specialist II with Montgomery County including a full range of investigative and enforcement duties or an equivalent position with broad responsibility in appropriate specialized area.
Substitution: Registration as a Professional Environmental Health Specialist in the State of Maryland may be substituted for the Education requirement.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: There will be no substitutions for this section.
Positions in this classification: Will be required to possess and maintain a motor vehicle operator's license valid Class "C" (or equivalent) from the applicant's state of residence.
