Manufacturing Engineer - CNC Programming & Job Planning
Bensenville, IL

We are seeking a skilled and driven Manufacturing Engineer to take ownership of quoting, job planning, and CNC programming in a fast-paced, high-mix, low-volume machining environment. This position plays a critical role in supporting custom part production, with a strong focus on stainless steel components used in the food and packaging industries.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop complete part routings from BOM interpretation through finishing operations
  • Quote new jobs based on customer RFQs, including estimating cycle times and selecting tooling
  • Program complex CNC lathe operations using Mastercam and Mazak conversational (Mazatrol) programming
  • Plan and structure jobs involving turning, milling, live tooling, and secondary processes
  • Support machinists on the floor with troubleshooting and program modifications (10-15% of time on shop floor)
  • Collaborate with the second Manufacturing Engineer to manage workflow and meet production timelines
Required Qualifications:
  • 5-7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering and CNC programming
  • Expert-level proficiency with Mastercam for complex geometry
  • Strong hands-on experience with Mazak lathes, including Mazatrol and G-code programming
  • In-depth knowledge of live tooling, Y-axis milling, and multi-axis turning
  • Experience transitioning from 2D drawings to 3D models to CAM programs
  • Proficiency with Inventor, SolidWorks, or other 3D CAD software
  • Demonstrated ability to machine stainless steel parts
  • Strong understanding of tool selection, insert types, GD&T, and workholding/fixtures
  • Familiarity with ERP or MRP systems for routing and job planning
  • Background in job shop environments where parts change frequently and speed is key
