The Corporate Safety Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining safety processes and programs to ensure a safe working environment for all company employees. This position is responsible for ensuring plant locations to comply of all federal, state and local regulations, guidelines, and company health & safety policies. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, highly motivated, experienced safety professional with the ability to work in a matrix-style organization.
Essential Functions

  • Program and Process Oversight
    • Implement and oversee the company's safety program including the development of site safety policies and procedures.
    • In collaboration with site Safety Managers, develop site-specific safety plans (Identify hazards, implement countermeasures, conduct audits, ensure standard operating procedures are followed) and training.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve company's safety culture
    • Continuously monitor risks, unsafe behaviors, and trends; determining root causes and implementing actions to mitigate risk; In collaboration with site frontline leadership, ensure safety practices and policies are followed to prevent accidents/incidents and injuries.
    • Champion initiatives, focusing on preventive actions, that identify and communicate facility risk exposure, prioritizing hazard reduction needs and ensuring closure of recommendations to mitigate risks.
    • Work with plant leaders to address safety issues and drive continuous improvements.
    • Routinely inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
    • Compiling, analyzing, and interpreting occupational illness and accident statistical data; recommending process safety enhancements that will reduce employee exposure to work hazards.
    • Manage the company's Product Stewardship Program on safety-related items to provide information to customers on product safety and complete surveys and questionnaires upon request.
    • Manage industrial hygiene testing programs (e.g., dust sampling) to ensure facilities maintain a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Communication and Training
    • Develop safety training programs and materials such as new hire orientation, cause mapping, fall protection, confined spaces, lockout/tagout, etc.
    • Act as liaison between company and regulatory agencies when needed.
    • Advise and support site management/operational staff on all safety activities, communicating initiatives, and establishing/updating and disseminating documentation relating to the health and safety management system.
  • Accident Investigation, Compliance and Auditing
    • Develop and implement accident investigations, root cause analysis, data analysis, and recurrence prevention programs and procedures.
    • Manage facility safety audits and inspection process as well as analyzing and tracking audit results and trends; collect, monitor, and analyze safety data, and prepare reports for company senior leadership team.
    • Prepare and submit necessary regulatory reports to federal, state, and local agencies to maintain compliance with safety permits, regulations, and requirements.
    • Collaborate with Plant, Risk, and Human Resources teams to administer Workers Compensation program.
    • Partner with company and stakeholder leadership and serve as a subject matter expert (SME) regarding the interpretation of federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.
    • Participate in the International Carbon Black Association (ICBA) committees as needed.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety/Safety Engineering, Chemistry, Engineering, or related technical discipline. Demonstrated relevant practical experience and training may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Minimum of 5 years' related experience in a corporate safety role driving and coordinating workplace safety initiatives for multiple manufacturing locations.
  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in plant safety operations compliance, including process or manufacturing with direct involvement with OSHA regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills which resonate with all employee levels (e.g. front-line employees, department management, corporate executives, government officials)
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize multiple, diverse tasks while employing impeccable attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills to achieve effective resolution of issues.
  • Progressive experience in a training capacity including developing comprehensive training materials.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills that enable groups of diverse backgrounds to work effectively toward a common goal/result.
  • Knowledge and skill set to understand Product Stewardship, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other applicable safety standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Certified safety professional, CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications are preferred.
