Job Description
nThe Control Systems Engineer 3 will fulfill the role of project responsible engineer and is responsible for all technical aspects of the physical and/or the software layer of the project automation scope. They will interact with the client, the Dynalectric project team and other project disciplines and trades during all stages of the project. The Control Systems Engineer 3 will provide technical leadership for multiple projects/assignments, participate in department personnel decisions and, in collaboration with the project manager, ensure that all project schedule and quality objectives are satisfied.
nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
nDevelop and maintain a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including periodic updates.
nPeer-review the design work of colleagues to ensure that project quality objectives are satisfied.
nDirect the design of control systems architectures to satisfy user requirements for communications, integration, data acquisition and redundancy.
nDirect the development of project related drawing and documentation packages such as wiring diagrams, control panels, interconnect diagrams, specifications and manuals.
nDirect the specification of instruments, valves and analyzers.
nConfigure, program, test, and troubleshoot control systems and networks.
nDirect the configuration, programming, testing and troubleshooting of graphical user interfaces.
nDirect the configuration, programming, testing and troubleshooting of data historians.
nDirect the development of project test protocols including FAT, SAT and SIT.
nPrepare detailed design specifications.
nDirect the configuration, programming, testing and troubleshooting of instruments, valves and VFDs.
nLead interactive design reviews with the client and the clients consulting engineers.
nExecute FAT, SAT and SIT protocols.
nProvide onsite support and service for local clients.
nPrepare recommendations to remediate or update existing control systems to meet client needs (e.g., component obsolescence or additional functionality).
nIdentify and vet new and/or unfamiliar technologies, products, and services that can reduce client costs or add value.
nProvide engineering support for the foremen responsible for system installation and commissioning.
nProvide technical support and training to less-senior colleagues.
nPERFORMANCE DOMAINS:
nControl Panel Design: Panel layout and power distribution, enclosure selection, breaker/fuse selection, I/O selection, loop drawings, VFD selection/configuration, relational database maintenance, UL 508A compliance.
nControl System Design: System architecture, device level LANs, controller selection, hazard analysis and mitigation, circuits for hazardous areas (XP, IS, NI), safety circuits
nand interlocks, overpressure relief device selection, specification development, test protocol development, RFI generation.
nInstrumentation and Final Control Elements: Configuration of and application limitations for common pressure/level/temperature sensor technologies, analyzers,
nflow meters, toxic and combustible gas detectors. Control valve sizing and selection, regulator sizing and selection, instrument and valve datasheets, material compatibility
nwith common process fluids.
nCodes and Standards: NFPA 701 (national electrical code), ISA RP-12 (intrinsic safety), ISA S882 (batch), ASME BPE3 (bioprocessing equipment), ASME BPCV4 (pressurized
nvessels), ANSI B16.55 (pipe flanges and fittings), UL 508A (industrial control panels).
nControl System Software Development: Control logic development, graphical user interface development, network configuration, time sequence database development, communication protocols.

Bachelors in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering

7+ years of experience as control/automation engineer

Proficiency in control panel design, control system design, control system software development, and final control element instrumentation
