This role will pay up to $115K base salary.

Position Summary

nn

The R&D Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing new products, materials, and processes. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, enhance existing technologies, and support the company's long-term development objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Research & Innovation:
  • n
  • Conduct industry research to identify new technologies, materials, and design trends.
  • n
  • Develop innovative solutions to improve existing products or create new ones.
  • n
  • Explore emerging scientific principles, methodologies, and materials for potential application.
  • n
  • Product Development & Design:
  • n
  • Conceptualize, design, and develop prototypes for new products.
  • n
  • Work with CAD software (SolidWorks) and simulation tools to create detailed engineering models (Ansys).
  • n
  • Perform feasibility studies and proof-of-concept testing.
  • n
  • Testing & Validation:
  • n
  • Develop and execute testing protocols to evaluate product performance in the lab.
  • n
  • Analyze test data and make necessary modifications to improve functionality, reliability, and durability.
  • n
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • n
  • Material & Process Optimization:
  • n
  • Select appropriate materials and evaluate their mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties.
  • n
  • Work with manufacturing teams to refine production processes, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
  • n
  • Research and implement advanced manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing, automation, and robotics.
  • n
  • Collaboration & Cross-functional Coordination:
  • n
  • Work closely with other departments like marketing and manufacturing to align R&D efforts with business goals.
  • n
  • Communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders through reports and presentations.
  • n
  • Partner with external research institutions, universities, and industry experts for technology advancements.
  • n
  • Cost Analysis & Budget Management:
  • n
  • Perform cost-benefit analysis for new product designs and material selections.
  • n
  • Manage project budgets, ensuring financial viability of research projects.
  • n
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high product quality.
  • n
  • Performs other duties and participates in Company initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering
  • n
  • 5-7 years of experience in R&D, focused on new product development
  • n
  • Lab experience is a must!
  • n
  • Composite Structures, Composite rolling or winding, and/or Composite Prepreg manufacturing experience
  • n
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • n
  • Proficiency in CAD software like SolidWorks, simulation tools like Ansys, and laboratory testing (Scientific method).
  • n
  • Knowledge of materials science, manufacturing processes, and prototyping techniques.
  • n
  • Experience with project management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • n
  • Strong communication skills for technical reporting and team collaboration.
  • n
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to fast-paced environments.

Works in a combination of a standard office, laboratory, and general normal manufacturing conditions. Uses general office equipment such as computers, telephones and other business task machines.
