nJob Description
nGENERAL PURPOSE
nPerforms a variety of assigned duties related to the preparation and service of meals; washing dishes; cleaning work areas and dining areas. Responsible for maintaining high standard of cleanliness.
nSUPERVISION RECEIVED
nThis position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Dining Services, Executive Chef and/or Chef Manager.
nSUPERVISION EXERCISED
nThis position is not responsible for the supervision of other employees or functions.
nESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION
nServe patients meals on centralized food line.
nAll tasks related to washing dishes, silverware, etc.
nServe food in dining room.
nAssist in cleaning work areas and equipment.
nUse toaster, juice machine, coffee makers, and any other related equipment.
nAssisting cooks with duties as necessary, such as washing and peeling fresh fruits and vegetables, making sandwiches, buttering bread, etc.

nREQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
nEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE- Completion of a high school, or general equivalency, diploma; AND
nMust complete Feeding Program training.
nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
nAbility to follow written and oral instructions.
nAbility to remain standing for extended periods of time
nMust be able to work in a warm, moist atmosphere and work in close contact with other people.
nWillingness to do routine work according to specific instructions.
nTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
nBrooms, mops, knives, vegetable peelers, can opener, toaster, juice machine, and coffee makers. Hair nets and rubber gloves must be worn when handling food.
nPHYSICAL DEMANDS
nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
nThe employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

nWORK ENVIRONMENT
nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
nThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderately noisy.

nI. Medical Insurance
nCoverage begins for the employee the first of the month following full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Cost to the employee to participate in the plans varies by the coverage selection and number of dependents; and may be subject to collective bargaining, if a union member. The employee may also elect to opt out of the County's medical insurance if proof of coverage through the spouse's employer is provided. Under this arrangement, the employee is provided with an annual $1,500.00 opt out payment.
nII. Vision and Prescription
nCoverage begins for the employee the first of the month following full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Copayments may vary, subject to collective bargaining, if a union member. Coverage under the vision plan varies and depends upon the employee's choice of doctor and frame selection.
nIII. Dental Coverage
nCoverage begins for the employee the first of the month following full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents. Copayments may vary, subject to collective bargaining, if a union member.
nIV. Life Insurance
nA life insurance policy is afforded to full-time employees beginning on the first day of employment, unless specified differently in a collective bargaining agreement. It remains in effect as long as the employee is actively employed and terminates upon resignation or retirement. $20,000 is afforded to all eligible employees.
nV. Retirement
nAll full-time employees and part-time employees working more than 1000 hours per year qualify for County of Northampton retirement benefits, in which employees must contribute 5% of their earnings, and employees may choose to add additional voluntary contributions, not to exceed an additional 10%. Additionally, employees may participate in an optional deferred compensation plan (457(b)) which may provide present tax advantages and future retirement savings. Such arrangements are made directly with the providers and the County will administer payroll deductions only.
