Position Overview
The Commissioning Engineer is primarily responsible for the commissioning of large-scale battery storage projects. They will lead the commissioning of large-scale battery storage systems, including battery enclosures, inverters, transformers and EMS. They will lead a team of internal and 3rd-party engineers and technicians through the process cold and hot commissioning of all system components including the performance testing at a system level.
This role requires frequent presence at the project site, but also extended periods of desk work to prepare procedures and complete reporting related to commissioning. Strong verbal and written skills are needed to select, qualify and train internal and external resources.
The ideal candidate will take ownership for all technical elements of project commissioning. This is an opportunity to contribute to the growth in North America and the expansion of the Project Engineering organization. This position reports to the Manager of Project Engineering.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops and aligns the commissioning safety plan with all parties involved
  • Develops the project commissioning procedure and gets stakeholder buy-in
  • Leads in the project commissioning on the project site.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
  • Safety mindset: Need to have sound judgement and triage skills to make safe workplace decisions onsite in the field or bring to the appropriate decision makers for consultation
  • Technical competency to troubleshoot and commission complex electrical systems.
  • Professional, proactive, adaptable individual with a strong results-oriented work ethic.
  • Must have excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills that remain consistent in high intensity customer facing interactions in the field.
  • Ability to think and respond quickly to customer requests in the moment with project and workplace safety always in mind
  • A strong, collaborative, team player able to thrive within a matrix organization. Comfortable working with international stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task in fast-paced environment.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors at project sites in variable weather conditions
Education and Experience
  • B.S. in Engineering or other technical discipline. Electrical Engineering a plus
  • 2+ years experience in renewables field
Travel Requirements
  • Position includes a yearly average of 50% travel with peaks/prolonged travel during project commissioning
