DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of vehicles for an assigned area. Responsibilities may include determining repair needs; performing various repairs; and maintaining equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE :
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to mechanical parts, fumes, gases, inadequate lighting, and intense noise.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree; or, High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and 2 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS :
Paid Time Off - 21 days/year as accrued

- Performs inspections, checks, and tests to determine repair needs of engine, electrical, brake, heating, axle, suspension, and related components of trucks, automobiles, equipment, and engines.
- Repairs engine, electrical, brake, heating, axle, suspension, and related components of trucks, automobiles, equipment, and engines.
- Performs standard welding and cutting of push bars, mounts, and related vehicles and equipment.
- Maintains tools and equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Performs data entry, work orders, electronic diagnosis, and shop operation input.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Methods of repairing trucks, automobiles, and specialized equipment;
- Applicable tools and equipment;

- Must be certified in and maintain 1, 2, and 4 automotive areas and 3, 6 and 1 or 2 heavy truck areas by the State of Michigan and/or equivalent certification by the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) within 12 months of hire. (see next page)
- Fork Lift Operator Certification (must obtain within six months of hire)
