Summary: Performs blood and body fluid collection for laboratory analysis and physician evaluation of patient condition, care, and treatment plan. Performs simple single step testing approved by CLIA and CLIA approve point of care testing. Participates in quality control plan for the Clinical Laboratory including instrumentation and personnel proficiency. May also be asked to cover any shift. Communicates with the Laboratory Medical Director (Pathologist), Manager, Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Nursing, Physicians, and Physician designated Personnel all quality control outcomes pertinent to regulatory agents, patient specimen analysis, and quality of patient care. Reviews and documents all quality control data pertinent to Clinical Laboratory practices as outlined by Policy and Procedure. Responsible for clerical duties including phone, fax, and copier. Educational/Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Continuing Education Certification in Phlebotomy from an approved course equivalent preferred. Documentation of training to include the skills required for proper specimen collection, including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation, processing or preparation, transportation and storage of specimens is required. Experience Requirements: Six weeks hospital training preferred. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Any approved Phlebotomy registry is preferred.
