Description
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving the performance of Valpak's highly automated production equipment, with a primary emphasis on electrical and mechanical systems design, troubleshooting, and integration. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime, increasing equipment reliability, and driving process improvements through advanced diagnostics and control system enhancements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Investigates, designs, and implements approaches to computer integrated manufacturing and robotics equipment, manufacturing methods, equipment maintenance and improvement, and production processes to optimize resource utilization.
2. Delivers proposals to stakeholders and leadership to gain support and buy in for new product equipment requirements, manufacturing methods, and processes by using case study data from related industry activity.
3. Responsible for installing and commissioning new production units, monitoring development (i.e., modifications and upgrades) and troubleshooting existing equipment and processes. Investigates and implements equipment, tooling, materials, and methods of manufacturing.
4. Plans and coordinates major equipment overhauls and executes plans within the time constraints of the business.
5. Writes, reviews, and revises operating instructions/procedures/change notices for production operations collaborating with the appropriate resources.
6. Conducts or coordinates times and motion studies to establish optimum production standards for production operations related to new product initiatives.
7. Develops techniques for monitoring, controlling, and improving product/process quality including coordination of vibration analysis through vendors.
8. Identifies and finds solutions for obsolete parts and/or mechanical systems in the manufacturing plant.
9. Assists and trains staff in Manufacturing families and Maintenance on tasks and skills needed.
Requirements
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering strongly preferred. Mechanical, Mechatronic/Robotic Engineering degrees preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in related activities (equipment design, re-engineering project work, new equipment design, operations leadership, mechanical engineering, etc.) in a manufacturing environment or a combination of relevant experience and education totaling 10 years.

- Proficient in reading and updating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical preferred).
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, and electrical safety practices.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
- Occasionally lift and/or manually move up to 40#.
- Occasionally required to work at heights up to 30 feet above ground on a ladder, in a scissor or a boom lift.
