The Packaging Engineer II will offer packaging solutions that speak to consumers while protecting and offering efficiencies on financial targets within the entire supply chain. The successful candidate will collaborate with Product Line Managers and the development team to deliver packaging and shipping methods across a suite of products (hard and soft goods). The Packaging Engineer II plays a crucial role in optimizing costs, quality, and enhancing processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Product Packaging Commercialization
- Analyze, create, recommend and monitor packaging development processes, reducing costs, and improving manufacturing efficiencies across categories.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product design, manufacturing, marketing, and supply chain, to align packaging solutions with business objectives.
- Monitor and understand factory packaging capabilities and guide direction and allocation for product optimization.
- Manage all pack outs across all categories and channels.
- Research and develop packaging solutions to best protect and display products to consumers in the respective channels; collaborating with merchandising and marketing teams on packaging solutions and how the product is shown at retail.
- Conduct market analysis on packaging trends specific to our product categories, remaining relevant on new technologies and trends in packaging.
- Continuously grow advanced packaging expertise and collaborate on innovations to implement on our product assortment across categories and channels.
- Develop and implement processes and guidelines for material testing specifications across categories and materials.
- Lead design on more complex / technical packaging die lines.
- Implement and manage quality standards on all packaging assets, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company guidelines while resolving production issues.
- Incorporate environmentally friendly practices and materials into packaging designs.
- Conduct tests to evaluate the performance of packaging materials and designs under various conditions (e.g., shipping, storage, and handling).
- Analyze test results to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Source and manage the packaging suppliers.
- Strategically drive supplier matrix and material utilization to assist PD team in cost savings and improved quality initiatives.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to source materials and ensure quality and sustainability standards are met.
- Oversee and maintain key supplier/ vendor partnerships.
- Create and build a network of contacts within the industry.
Skills / Capabilities/ Preferences:
- Knowledge and background in package engineering, management, and testing processes of packaging.
- Detail-oriented with project management skills and a high degree of agility and adaptability.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and design software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Familiarity with testing standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM).
- Ability to seasonally travel overseas and visit manufacturers may be required.
