nMinimum Qualifications
nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
nPossession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
nTwo years of licensed engineering experience; or
nSix years of professional engineering experience.
nEXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
nA master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.
nA doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.
nAdvanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.
nThere is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
nNOTES:
nEngineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience.
nEngineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
nApplications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.

nFUNCTION OF WORK:
nSupervises the planning, design, construction, inspection, and/or maintenance of building systems or programs through subordinate professional engineers.
nLEVEL OF WORK:
nSupervisor.
nSUPERVISION RECEIVED:
nBroad from an Engineer 7 or higher. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
nSUPERVISION EXERCISED:
nDirect over a staff of Engineers, Engineering Technicians, or others who assist in specific assignments.
nLOCATION OF WORK:
nMay be used by all state agencies.
nJOB DISTINCTIONS:
nDiffers from Engineer 5 by the presence of responsibility for direct supervision over professional engineers.
nDiffers from Engineer 7 by the absence of second-line supervision over professional engineers. Exceptions to this distinction may be approved by SCS based on program scope and/or complexity.

nSupervises a departmental unit or section providing engineering services. Develops work program and operating budget.
nSupervises engineering personnel; assigns projects and provides technical guidance.
nDevelops new and revised standards and specifications for the engineering program.
nParticipates in feasibility studies to facilitate program planning. Formulates and implements program operational policies.
nMaintains contact with appropriate local, state, and federal agencies. Reviews and participates in the preparation of engineering reports.
