Position Overview

n

Under general direction of the Program Director, The Cook is responsible for purchasing, stocking, preparing and cooking the food that is provided to clients at a program site. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.(SDV)

Duties and Responsibilities

    n
  • n

    Cleans food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, equipment and utensils.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Ensures sanitation, health and safety standards are maintained in work areas.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Measures ingredients required for specific food to be prepared.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Washes, cuts, chops and prepares foods designated for cooking.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Follows menu in preparing meals.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Follows recipes in cooking meals.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Cleans, stocks and restocks workstation and supply area.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Must follow personal sanitation standards before, during and after cooking food.

  • n
  • n

    Orders and takes delivery of food and supplies.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Cleans up kitchen and takes proper care in storing leftover food.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Complies with nutrition and sanitary regulations and safety standards.

  • n
  • n

    Maintains a positive and professional approach with co-workers and clients.

  • n

    Keeps abreast of new ideas in field.

    Performs other duties as requested

Shift: 10:30AM-6:30PM Sunday through Thursday

Requirements

Education, Experience, License/Certification and/or Skills Required:

n
    n
  • n

    High School Graduate or GED OR Culinary School training.

    n
  • n
  • n

    At least two years of prior experience as a Cook in a restaurant or similar environment

    n
  • n
  • n

    Food Handling Certificate is required.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Good understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks

    n
  • n
  • n

    Good communication skills

    n
  • n
  • n

    Familiar with best practices.

    n
  • n
  • n

    Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and staff.

    Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

    Will be cooking and heating hot food items and must take the necessary precautions.
