Chipton-Ross is seeking Pipe Welders for a contract opportunity in Marinette, WI.
nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE): Must have 5 years minimum of construction or mechanical experience
nAbility to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
nAbility to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
nAbility to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
nAbility to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.
nAbility to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
nWELDING TEST GUIDELINES:
nPipe test are all done on 6" sch 40. All pipe tests are done in the 6G position. You will have a 2 hour time limit on each test. There are 4 bend specimens in each test. 2 root bends and 2 face bends. We mostly test on carbon pipe but will test on stainless and copper nickel as needed with the work at hand.
nThe tests are as follows:
nGTAW all the way-out open root
nSMAW with backing ring
nFCAW with backing ring
nGMAW short circuit open root with FCAW fill and cover
nAcceptance criteria:
nReinforcement / cover passes must be stacked from the bottom to the top
nReinforcement cannot be below flush and shall not exceed 1/8"
nUndercut shall not exceed 1/32"
nWeld shall be free of porosity, cracks, incomplete fusion.
nWelds are to be in the as welded condition
nWeld root must be a minimum of flush
nbacking rings shall not have burn through
nBend Acceptance criteria:
nDiscontinuities are not counted under 1/32"
nAny discontinuities that exceed 1/8" are rejected
nTotal of discontinuities cannot exceed 3/8"
nPOSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
nFollows directions under intermittent supervision.
nWeld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
nOperate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
nRecognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
nSelect and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
nLay out, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
nExamine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
nOperate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using flux-cored arc.
nDetect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
nUse fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
nGouge metals, using the air-arc gouging process.
nTroubleshoot problems with all equipment as it arises.
nMay be assigned miscellaneous tasks outside craft as required.
nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
n3+ years experience preferred
nPrior shipyard experience a plus
nFabrication experience in a Military environment a plus
nAbility to work in a fast-paced environment

n$120 daily per diem
nTo qualify you must hold a legal residence at least 50 miles away from the work site.
nEmployment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
