Company Description
Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance
We're looking for a hands-on Embedded/Firmware Engineer to design and build embedded systems for next-gen defense robotics. You'll own the development of real-time firmware, embedded PCBs, sensor/motor integration, and field-ready electronics that power rugged, edge-deployed platforms.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in high-stakes environments, love rapid prototyping, and enjoy collaborating across hardware, software, and robotics teams.
Job Description
Firmware & Embedded Development
  • Write and test embedded firmware for controllers, motor drivers, and sensors
  • Implement real-time control loops, sensor acquisition, and signal processing
  • Develop firmware testing and debugging tools to ensure reliability
PCB & System Design
  • Design embedded PCBs integrating MCUs, sensors, drivers, and communication interfaces
  • Simulate and optimize for performance, durability, and noise immunity
Sensor & Motor Integration
  • Integrate sensors (IMUs, LiDAR, cameras) and motors into embedded platforms
  • Build firmware for accurate, efficient motor control
Prototyping & Testing
  • Assemble and field-test prototypes in rugged outdoor and defense-like conditions
  • Conduct environmental, shock, and vibration testing for reliability validation
Manufacturing & Scale-Up
  • Lead design-for-manufacturing (DFM) reviews to ensure production readiness
  • Work closely with vendors and suppliers to meet quality and cost targets
Cross-Functional System Integration
  • Collaborate with mechanical, optical, and robotics teams for full system integration
  • Build software interfaces with other computing systems across the platform
  • Support field deployments with hands-on troubleshooting and guidance
Documentation & Compliance
  • Produce schematics, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and firmware documentation
  • Ensure systems meet safety, MIL-STD, and ITAR compliance requirements
Qualifications
  • 3-8 years in embedded systems, firmware development, or robotics
  • Strong in embedded C/C++, with some Python
  • Familiar with RTOS, Altium/KiCad, and debugging tools
  • Experience with PCB design, sensor integration, motor control
  • Skilled in designing for EMI/EMC, thermal, and real-world rugged use
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or related field
  • Strong problem-solver with a bias for action and hands-on experimentation
  • Comfortable in fast-paced, cross-disciplinary environments
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator
  • Experience with rugged electronics in harsh environments
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD and ITAR compliance
  • Background in robotics or real-time control systems
  • Active or eligible for U.S. security clearance
