General Description
nnnnnBiovire Inc., a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, is searching for a Senior Controls Engineer for the Brighton, Michigan manufacturing site to work closely with the Maintenance & Calibration Manager and supporting staff.
nThe duties of the Senior Controls Engineer are to design, program, troubleshoot, and maintain automated controls systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks, to optimize equipment performance, support production needs, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
nnnnnnnnnDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
nnnnnThe Senior Controls Engineer will report to the Maintenance and Calibration Manager who is tasked with directing facility and process equipment activities needed to support manufacturing operations at the Biovire Brighton, MI site.
nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
n1. Design, develop, and implement control systems for automated machinery and processes.
n2. Program, debug, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider).
n3. Develop and maintain electrical controls schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
n4. Configure and integrate sensors, actuators, drives, and other automated equipment.
n5. Collaborate with Maintenance personnel on troubleshooting systems and utilities.
n6. Monitor onsite Building Automation System operation as needed.
n7. Adhere to all Biovire policies including but not limited to Quality, Human Resources, Health and Safety, that will ensure a robust manufacturing environment
n8. Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Process Development to minimize equipment downtime and improve efficiency.
n9. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives involving automation and process optimization.
WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
nnnnnThis is a key role within the Biovire organization; therefore, the expectations and credentials of the candidate are demanding. The educational and work history requirements represent the minimum for this position:
n1. Education/Experience Requirements:
na. 5+ years of experience in controls systems design, PLC/HMI programming, and industrial automation.
nb. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
2. Strong proficiency with both Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC software.
n3. Proficiency with industrial networking (Ethernet, IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.)
n4. Strong troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
n5. Proficiency with safety systems, including safety relays, light curtains, and interlocks.
n6. Proficiency with motion control systems, VFDs, servo motor integration and camera system.
n7. Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
n8. Strong understanding of lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and mechanical guarding practices.
n9. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently or as part of a cross-functional group.
Preferred:
n1. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics.
n2. Prior experience in a regulated environment (E.g., GMP, FDS, ISO)
n3. Hands-on experience with robotic systems (E.g., Staubli, ABB, Fanuc)
