Brethren Village Retirement Community, in Lititz, PA, is hiring aLine Chef or Cook, for part-time, "as-needed", employment.
Please note: Work days and hours will vary, and may include some Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The successful applicant will be scheduled as-needed, to fill-in for other staff.
Brethren Village offers our Chefs and Cooks an extra $1.00 per hour for weekend work, and no late night work hours.
Successful applicants will have at least 1 year of related professional experience as a Chef or Cook in a restaurant, hotel, healthcare facility, college, or similar setting, or successful completion of formal training through a culinary program.
Our Line Chefs and Cooks have the opportunity to work in our full service restaurant open to the public, a bistro, and in our healthcare facility kitchen, under the guidance of an Executive Chef. Our Line Chefs and Cooks also assist with large catered events and fine-dining functions.
The Line Chef / Cook will have the opportunity to propose new menu items, and create a variety of dishes using various techniques.
Work Schedule:
Applicants must be able to work some weekends and holidays, and during the week.

Core Requirements:
- a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- dependability: ability and willingness to meet attendance standards
- basic computer skills: the ability to access and navigate web sites, and use applications and databases independently
- the ability to read and to complete online training independently
- commitment to consistently working in a safe and hygienic manner, wearing protective equipment as required for the position, and adhering to all health and safety standards
- the ability and willingness to interact in a professional and friendly manner with colleagues
- the ability to provide exceptional service to others
- ability and willingness to represent Brethren Village and carry out responsibilities in a manner aligned with our core values of caring, integrity, stewardship, and excellence
- at least 1 year of professional experience as a Chef or Cook in a restaurant, cafe, healthcare facility, college, or similar setting, OR successful completion of formal training through a culinary program
- knowledge and experience with various food preparation techniques, tools, and equipment
- the ability to read and carefully follow recipes and food preparation schedules; for our supportive living Residents, the ability to carefully follow prescribed recipes and diets
- knowledge of safe food handling regulations - a food safety / "ServSafe" certificate preferred; ability and willingness to consistently adhere to all Brethren Village protocols and sound food-safety practices
- ability to remain calm and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- the ability to stand during an 8-hour shift; to walk frequently; and to lift and carry 25 lbs. on a routine basis
- ability and willingness to work some Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays
