Job Description:
Maryland Environmental Service (MES) has an opening for a full-time Environmental Specialist Trainee (EST) and/or Environmental Specialist (ES) in the Environmental Dredging and Restoration Division located at our Headquarters facility in Millersville, MD. Classification offered is to commensurate with experience. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting project related public engagement and stakeholder outreach efforts, including planning and staffing community events; developing and designing outreach communication tools such as flyers, infographics, and presentations; providing meeting support including planning and drafting meeting summaries; delivering educational and outreach programs; performing basic field studies, which could include the collection of field samples, conducting field monitoring, or assisting with technical reports; and conducting other environmental project-related tasks as necessary. Occasional evening and weekend work will be necessary. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. The selected applicant may be required to drive to field sites, community events, or labs to fulfill management, outreach, meeting attendance, or sampling/monitoring requirements. Assistance with other EDR projects may be required.
Estimated Pay Range:
EST: $45,666.23 - $48,000.00
ES: $50,233.92 - $60,000.00

Minimum education requirements for each classification include a Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology or a related field from an accredited college or university, plus:
An applicable advanced education degree may be substituted for up to two years of experience. Applicants should have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points.
Preferred skills but not required: Strong verbal, written, and technical skills, knowledge and experience, and fluency in MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint as well as graphic design software. Experience supporting meetings and summary development, assisting in planning outreach events, and engaging with stakeholders. Additional experience with field-level environmental monitoring, data collection, data management, and analysis as well as public outreach experience.
