Job Title: Hardware Engineer - mTIB Support (OCTA/NFTA)
Duration: Long Term
Location: Hybrid -Columbia, MD
Justification: Required to assist the mTIB developer with integration and hardware validation support for transit systems at OCTA and NFTA.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide hardware integration, validation, and troubleshooting support for internally developed hardware boards to be deployed transit sites.
  • Collaborate closely with the product development team to ensure hardware and software components integrate seamlessly with existing transit infrastructure.
  • Conduct comprehensive hardware validation and acceptance testing to ensure system reliability, performance, and compliance with transit authority standards.
  • Support deployment, configuration, and commissioning of custom hardware in field environments.
  • Analyze hardware issues reported from field operations and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including software engineers, system architects, vendors, and operations teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for hardware configurations, integration processes, test plans, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide recommendations for hardware improvements based on field feedback and system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory standards applicable to public transit systems.
Technical Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 5-10 years of experience in hardware engineering, integration, and field support, preferably within transportation or transit systems.
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems hardware, industrial communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, CAN, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
  • Experience with hardware validation, test automation, and system integration methodologies.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system blueprints.
  • Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, protocol analyzers, and network sniffers.
