Who is a Product Development Engineer at SMT?

nnAs a Product Development Engineer at SMT, you will work hands-on with our active tracking technology utilized in data collection for various sports. In your role, you will contribute to the design, development, and testing of new products from concept to production. Additionally, you will assist with the improvement of existing products and technologies, including infrared, radio frequency and G.P.S. tracking products.
nnYou will work closely with our Vice President of Active Tracking Technology, as well as electrical engineers, manufacturing and other teams to innovate, improve, and ensure high-quality products that change the game of sports technology!

- Collaborating with leadership to execute hardware and firmware projects to deliver customer value. n
- Contributing at a high level to product development objectives, strategy, and tactics. n
- Developing initial product layouts and generating concepts, prototypes, demonstrate & test to drive down-selection. n
- Partnering with external vendors & internal manufacturing teams to optimize designs for function, cosmetics and manufacturability. n
- Assisting with assembly of prototypes, ensuring compliance with industry and SMT standards and regulations. n
- Providing engineering assistance and troubleshooting to operations personnel. n
- Conducting testing and writing acceptance test procedures and qualification test plans. n
- Contributing to integrated product development teams to optimize designs and verifying electrical/electronic system performance. n
- Efficiently communicating updates, design ideas and contributing to brainstorming new products. n
What Do You Bring to SMT?
nHere are some of the key skills and experiences we are looking for in our future game-changing teammate:

- Bachelor's degree or Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, or comparable industry experience. n
- 3+ years’ professional firmware development experience. n
- Relevant experience in embedded systems design and software/firmware development. n
- Proficiency with:n
- n
- C/C++ programming on resource limited MCUs. n
- bare metal and TI-RTOS based program design. n
- testing software (unit tests and/or functional tests) n
- CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other engineering tools. n
n - Experience with:n
- n
- GPS RTK base station and rover systems n
- advanced mapping techniques including photogrammetry, GPS, and LIDAR data. n
- writing “sleepy” software for battery operated devices. n
- TI CCS and Atmel / Microchip Studio. n
- using a logic analyzer for HW/SW integration and testing of communication protocols such as RS232, SPI, I2C, CAN, 1-wire, etc. n
- Python programming . n
- custom Linux kernels. n
n - Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written n
- Willing and able to travel to manufacturing facilities and suppliers as needed. n
