Job Description
The position is responsible for both emergent and elective registrations. Untimely registration or any information not obtained by this position can impact Stamford's compliance with various guidelines. Also, delays to this process in emergent situations impact the clinician's ability to place orders and administer medications. • The Patient Access representative will have the Revenue Cycle responsibilities related to obtaining accurate registration and/or pre-registration of patients within established departmental guidelines for both socio-demographic and financial/ insurance data and serving as an advocate for the patient in identifying third party payer coverages, referral, and pre-certification requirements. Collecting Co-pay deductibles and cash collection.
Qualifications
Two years of college or 2 years prior equivalent experience in a fast-paced health care setting. Computer knowledge and minimum typing requirements of 35 -40 wpm. General knowledge of health insurance and business experience. Knowledge of clinical terms required. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and ability to work with patients, their family, and the public. Knowledge of Meditech system preferred.

- Timely and accurate follow up with third party payers, patients and physician office staff to determine clinical service pre-authorizations/requirements and compliance with same.
- Ability to assess gaps in patient coverage to determine patient financial exposure prior to rendering service.
- Analysis of patient financial ability to pay and determination of resources available that may assist patients in meeting their financial obligations. Collecting Co-pay deductibles and Cash Collections.
- Accurate registration and/or pre-registration of patients within established departmental guidelines for both socio-demographic and financial/insurance data as back to up daily registration staff.
- Facilities patients' intake/transition to the health system by providing excellent customer service skills and serving as an advocate for the patient in explaining third party payer coverages and referral and precertification requirements.
- Educating the patient regarding their rights, advance directives, system services, and other patient services.
- Providing timely and accurate information regarding patient data/status to other health system departments, physicians, physician office staffs, and other publics while insuring patient confidentiality is not breached.
- Insuring patient flow through the registration process or phone intake process is professional, patient friendly, and within department established time standards.
