Position Summary

n

The Environmental Engineer – Waste & Water Compliance will play a key role in ensuring environmental regulatory compliance across all aspects of the plant’s operations, with a focus on hazardous waste handling, wastewater systems, stormwater management, and compliance testing. This individual will coordinate closely with the Quality Manager, Plant Manager, and other site personnel to ensure that operations are aligned with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, protect public health and welfare, and uphold the company’s Environmental Policy.

Primary Responsibilities

n

Compliance Coordination & Oversight

n
    n
  1. Support daily operations by ensuring adherence to environmental requirements related to air quality, water discharge, hazardous and solid waste, and chemical management
  2. n
  3. Coordinate with the Quality Manager, Plant Manager, and relevant stakeholders to promote regulatory compliance across the facility
  4. n
  5. Assist in environmental inspections, audits, and internal reviews; prepare sites for regulatory agency visits
  6. n

Waste Stream & Hazardous Material Management

n
    n
  1. Oversee classification, storage, disposal, and manifesting of hazardous and non-hazardous waste
  2. n
  3. Ensure labeling, containment, and documentation meets RCRA and DHEC regulations
  4. n
  5. Evaluate pollution control and waste treatment systems; recommend improvements when necessary
  6. n
n

Wastewater & Stormwater Oversight

n
    n
  1. Monitor and maintain compliance with wastewater and stormwater discharge permits (NPDES)
  2. n
  3. Conduct or coordinate sampling, data analysis, and reporting in accordance with permit requirements
  4. n
  5. Implement best management practices (BMPs) under the facility’s Policies
  6. n
n

Environmental Monitoring & Reporting

n
    n
  1. Collect, record, and analyze data from environmental testing activities (air, water, soil)
  2. n
  3. Prepare required environmental reports for review by the Quality Manager
  4. n
  5. Track environmental metrics and trends to identify improvement opportunities
  6. n
n

Training & Awareness

n
    n
  1. Conduct training on waste handling, wastewater systems, spill prevention, and environmental awareness
  2. n
  3. Maintain and update environmental SOPs and internal communication materials
  4. n
  5. Serve as a point of contact for environmental questions or concerns from plant staff
  6. n

Additional Responsibilities

    n
  • Recommend operational or equipment changes to minimize environmental impacts and improve efficiency
  • n
  • Ensure chemical inventory and SDS database are current and compliant
  • n
  • Support ISO 14001 implementation and audits
  • n
  • Manage vendor relationships for environmental services (sampling, waste haulers, lab testing)
  • n

Qualifications

n
    n
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
  • n
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, or heavy industry
  • n
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team
  • n
  • Demonstrated experience in time management and the ability to prioritize effectively in a fluid and dynamic environment
  • n
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws including RCRA, NPDES, Clean Water Act, and hazardous materials regulations
  • n
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting and environmental data systems
  • n
  • HAZWOPER certification and ISO 14001 experience strongly
  • n
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • n
n n

Work Environment

n
    n
  • Split between office and plant-floor environments with exposure to noise, dust, and equipment
  • n
  • PPE required for plant and field activities (e.g., steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, respirators)
  • n
  • Occasional evenings/weekends may be required during inspections, shutdowns, or audit preparations
  • n
n n
