nRole Description: The Senior Mechanical Engineer must have 10+ years of experience. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide design of systems and equipment associated with the design and construction of Direct Reduction plants and new technology initiatives.
nSupervisory Responsibilities:
n- Senior engineers act as mechanical discipline leads providing technical support for various projects and initiatives.
n- Senior engineers will not have direct reports but will assign work to other engineers and designers.
nDuties/Responsibilities:
n- Perform designs and mechanical analyses through calculations basic to Mechanical Engineering with direction from a Senior Mechanical Engineer, if necessary.
n- Sketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to the designers for development of mechanical drawings.
n- Coordinate the mechanical design effort by acting as Lead Mechanical Engineer for projects by:
n•Directing the efforts of assigned engineers and designers for the layout of equipment, etc.
n•Checking mechanical drawings, calculations, sketches, etc. for the project,
n•Developing specifications/requisitions for support of purchasing effort, and
n•Review and approve purchasing quotations, vendor drawings, and QA documents.
n- Provide technical support for the Aftermarket, Inspections, & Purchasing departments with review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of mechanical equipment.
n- Provide direction and technical support for designers.
n- Analyze design and vendor supplied equipment for adherence to engineering specifications, required codes & standards, and project requirements.
n- Check drawings and drafting for adherence to designs.
n- Develop new technology designs and incorporate larger systems.
n- Review designs and assist other Senior Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve an existing or proposed design relative to its function.
n- Travel to fabrication workshops and job sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant & fabricator personnel, perform on-site inspections and gain experience valuable to design considerations (i.e., operating conditions, temperature considerations, etc.).
n- Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental, project, & corporate tasks and functions.
n- Write Technical Specifications for mechanical equipment design, fabrication, procurement, etc.
n- Provide support to the Sales and Estimating groups in preparation of proposals, including sizing and selection of equipment, plant layout, and engineering man-hour estimates.
n- Work as a “team player"" with all company departments and employees in all assignments.
n- Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.
n- Coordinate projects with outside engineering consultants and Clients.
n- Propose and design equipment design improvements.
n- Provide mentorship to mechanical engineers and designers.

nRequired:
n- Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products.
n- Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.
n- Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.
n- Excellent base of mechanical engineering technical skills and knowledge of processes.
n- Ability to use mechanical engineering principles for complex problem solving.
n:
n- International travel experience.
n- Industrial plant experience.
n- Computer aided simulation/analysis of Mechanical Equipment designs (FEA, CFD, Heat Transfer, etc.)
n- Design of Dust Collection systems with adherence to NFPA and local codes.
n- Design of industrial Fire Protection systems with adherence to NFPA and local codes.
n- Utilize design software for piping and gas system analysis/layout.
n- Design and troubleshooting hydraulic systems.
n- Piping design and stress analysis including selection of pipe hangers and supports.
n- Material Handling system specification, layout, and design.
n- Water Treatment systems specification, layout, and design.
n- Specification, startup, and troubleshooting of water pump systems.
nEducation and Experience:
n- Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Degree; Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Technology Degree.
n- Minimum 10 years of experience in an industrial or technical environment, preferably related to steel industry.
nTravel Requirements:
n- 10% -25% International and Domestic based upon project demands.
nPhysical Requirements:
n- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
n- Ability to move around a project site, including climbing structures.
nEducation: Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Degree.
nExperience: Minimum 10+ years of experience
nRelocation: This position will cover relocation expenses
