Your Contribution:
The Credit Reporting and Dispute Specialist will be responsible for responding to direct and indirect credit disputes, conducting credit reporting related research, and performing maintenance as needed to correct credit information transmitted to the credit bureau(s). Focus is on accuracy of furnished credit data, compliance with applicable lending regulations, and adequacy of documentation. The role involves communication with members, third parties (credit bureaus, credit disputes organizations, core system processor, credit cards processor), branch employees, lending staff, and other internal departments. The specialist should be detail oriented, be able to work independently, and possess good organizational skills. The specialist must possess a strong understanding of all credit reporting policies, procedures, and applicable lending regulations. This role requires the exercise of independent judgment, effective navigation of ambiguity, ownership, acceptance of tasks and responsibilities, and completion of tasks within timelines and established deadlines.
As a vital member of the LCCU team, your responsibilities include the following:
- Oversee the development and implementation of policies, procedures, services, products, and systems to ensure accurate credit reporting and timely dispute response.
- Work proactively with the appropriate teams to investigate direct and indirect disputes and with other business units to investigate credit reporting-related complaints. Must have the ability to investigate situations thoroughly and provide reports timely and complete.
- Work closely with upper management with the training of all new department employees related to 3rd party and/or internal systems.
- Analysis of reports and information available in credit bureaus interfaces to monitor monthly credit report statistics and to generate internal reports.
- Analyze core system and credit cards processor tools for credit reporting.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with credit bureaus.
- Monitor dispute activity and provide trend analysis.
- Develop department audits and monitor response times and document retention. Develop multiple reports to ensure compliance with FCRA.
- Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate policy and process enhancements. Reports on potential risk factors and data gaps.
- Identify ways to make the department run more efficiently and actively participate in implementing projects aimed at procedural enhancements and improvement.
- Make edits and submit to review all credit reporting and credit dispute manuals, procedures, worksheets, FAQs, and QRGs, etc.
- Testing on existing and new systems as needed for implementation or changes to procedures.

- High School diploma (or GED) required; bachelor's degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 3-4 years of credit reporting/disputes or equivalent experience.
- Must be able to speak and write English fluently. Spanish is a plus.
- Strong familiarity with consumer compliance laws, regulations, guidance, and ability to perform independent research.
- Knowledge of relevant lending regulations.
- Must be proficient in using available resources to locate and acquire information regarding lending regulations, as well as credit union policies and guidelines.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Solid understanding of consumer and real estate lending.
- Experience working with Excel, Word, Access, databases, E-Oscar, and/or other third-party credit reporting/dispute resolution software is preferred.
- Must be professional and courteous in all interactions with members and co-workers.
- Must meet all LCCU (Latino Community Credit Union) mandated education requirements.
- Must set an example for new employees and be comfortable providing guidance in the absence of management.
- Prior Credit Union experience is a plus.
