Painter Senior - McLaren Careers

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the supervisor, paints, performs paper and vinyl hanging, redecorates, produces graphic designs, finishes newly hung drywall, refinishes surfaces, and performs sectional repair of walls.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1. n

   Paints interior and exterior of hospital buildings, sands, paints, varnishes and refinishes doors, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

   n

2. n

   Prepares surface for painting by removing old paint, cleans surface, ceilings, and woodwork, repairs damaged walls and ceilings, scrapes and putties window sashes.

   n

3. n

   Prepares surface to receive vinyl wall covering by removing old vinyl and glue, patching and sanding wall. Installs wall covering per manufacturers specifications.

   n

4. n

   Rigs ladders and staging for painting. Uses standard paint products, applies paint, varnish, or stain, using brush, roller, spray gun or airless equipment.

   n

5. n

   Measures parking lot spaces according to specifications; applies paint stripes to mark spaces, paint numbers, initials, or other marking on surface or curbing to identify parking space assignments or parking restrictions.

6. n

   Produces graphic designs for specialty painting; performs texture/sponge painting.

   n

7. n

   Performs minor furniture restoration; applies upholstery covering to office shelving.

   n

8. n

   Applies coded color paints to steam, water, and other piping.

   n
n
9. n

   Assists in determining proper material, application and installation for various projects throughout the hospital.

   n

10. n

    Cleans and maintains work area and equipment. Ensures the proper use, repair and storage of materials, tools, and equipment.

Qualifications:

Required:

n
• n

  High school diploma or equivalent.

  n
n
• n

  Successful completion of Painter and Decorator Apprenticeship Program or equivalent (a minimum of four years of full time experience in the painting trade under a journey level painter) and two years as journey level painter. This requirement is waived for those in this position on August 26, 2013.

  Eight years in construction or mechanics trades or equivalent.

• n

  Valid State of Michigan driver’s license and copy of current driving record. The record must be within the approved regulations when compared to MGL insurance company’s regulations.

Preferred:

• Variety of skills that includes: brazing, welding, energy management systems, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical.
