Under the direction of the orthodontist takes radiographs, photos, impressions and completes reversible orthodontic procedures. Responsible for the disinfection of the work area and sterilization of instruments and equipment, monitors supply levels and expiration dates. Performs laboratory functions; such as pouring up models, fabrication and repair of appliances. Individuals must have great control of the small muscles of hands and fingers and exceptional hand-eye coordination to work precisely with small instruments and orthodontic components directly in the patient's mouth. Administrative functions may include scheduling patient appointments and liaising with insurance/financial representatives.
Minimum Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in the practice of orthodontic assisting and knowledge in orthodontic procedures, appliances and techniques as acquired through working a minimum of one year in an orthodontic or orthodontic/pediatric dental practice.
- Familiarity and ability to take intra and extra oral radiographs; including cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).
- Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.
