Position Purpose:
As a vital player in the food supply chain, Food and food service delivery drivers ensure that products reach customers safely and on time while fostering strong relationships. The Driver Trainee role is an entry-level training position where you will learn the essentials of hauling freight and operating tractor trailers while supporting experienced drivers with their deliveries and routes.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Successfully complete the Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required.
Accompany and assist driver trainers in executing deliveries as required.
Perform all safety checks, including inspections of the vehicle and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Report any safety issues or needed repairs promptly.
Adhere to all DOT regulations and company policies for safe driving.
Inspect the trailer to ensure properly loaded and secured freight.
Perform count checks of loaded items and verify customer invoices accurately.
Assist in moving the tractor to the loading dock and attaching preloaded trailers.
Drive and deliver customer orders according to a predetermined route schedule.
Unloading products from the trailer and transporting them into customer storage areas.
Conduct damage control checks on items, scanning and notifying supervisors about any returns or issues.
Confirm deliveries with customers and obtain necessary signatures.
Collect payments (cash or checks) where required.
Secure customer returns in the trailer before check-in.
Unload damaged goods and customer returns, completing necessary paperwork.
Maintain cleanliness of the tractor, loading dock area, and trailers as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall operations.
Qualifications:
0-6 months experience with a CDL A
High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent
Valid CDL A
Must meet all state licensing and certification requirements
Age 21 or older
Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
Pass a road test
Possess a valid current DOT Health Card or be able to secure one
Able to hand-lift and use equipment to move product cases/freight of varied sizes and weights
