The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $93,000.00 to $154,900.00. Position Details: The Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) team supports the technology that powers Grainger's distribution centers and branch network for North America. We ensure the right products move efficiently through our supply chain to meet customer needs. In this fast-paced and complex environment, our team builds and supports the systems that drive inventory movement, order fulfillment, warehouse automation, and network efficiency. We work closely with operations to deliver scalable, resilient solutions that enable growth and continuous improvement. This team supports a variety of systems and software: SAP EWM 7.0, S/4 Hana for EWM, SAP WM, SAP GTS, Manhattan, Kafka, Connectship, Logistiview, Dematic and others. We are seeking a Senior Business Systems Engineer with a DevOps focus to join our Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) engineering team. This role will lead the implementation, optimization, and support of systems that enable seamless parcel and freight shipping integration using ConnectShip and FedEx, tightly coupled with SAP EWM (both on-premise and S/4HANA cloud deployments) and Manhattan platforms. This position plays a key role in driving automation, reliability, and scalability of complex distribution operations across our supply chain ecosystem. You'll be a hands-on contributor responsible for DevOps practices, configuration, coding, and operational support, ensuring critical integrations run securely, efficiently, and in compliance with business SLAs. You will: Design, configure and/or develop, deploy, optimize, monitor and improve systems and business applications. Clearly demonstrates understanding of the implications of their usage on the business. Contribute to capability roadmaps and conducting technology research for innovation and continuous improvement. Translate complex business requirements into detailed technical specifications and deliverables. Specialized with core technical and functional domain experience within respective team (beyond where necessary, demonstrates curiosity). Defines nonfunctional requirements in accordance with Engineering best practices (Security, reliability, performance, etc.) Partners with administration and operational teams to improve key service practices. Documenting debt and waste. Develops sustainable feedback loops for continuous improvement. Builds sustainable systems with monitoring and observability, builds with supportability in mind. Set standards for operating procedures and advises on best practices for engineers. Support team activities (daily status meetings, tech huddle topics, desk checks) and pairing with peers to work on stories Regularly evaluates current business processes, applications, systems, and identifies potential improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Uses each task/story as an opportunity to embed improvements. Provide coaching and mentoring to junior engineers You have: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience 5 years of configuration and/or development experience in broad range of hardware & software products. Proficient ability to design, develop, test, and deploy applications/ systems using proven technologies within variety of technologies and environments. Knowledge of specific programming languages and techniques. Works autonomously with limited guidance. Directs the application of existing principles and guides development of new policies and ideas Proficient troubleshooting (within multiple systems) and problem-solving skills Embeds data analytics capabilities and understanding of key business data models Experienced in Connectship. Experienced in scripting languages like Powershell, Python, etc. Experienced in .Net or Java experience Experience with FedEx Ship Manager Server. Transportation and Carrier knowledge is a plus. Kafka, JSON, Python and other languages a plus. Development Focus and Scope: Experience across multiple technical and functional domains maintained by team Consistently practice engineering sensible defaults on the team Ability to triage issues in production Knowledge of how systems fit into Grainger enterprise architecture Working towards a robust understanding of Grainger's end-to-end business including ability to explain how key tech initiatives are contributing to the business and how our growth drivers work. Demonstrates general curiosity, customer-focus and peer leadership with a focus on making their team better. Strong coding, debugging, and analytical skills, with the ability to write and maintain code in relevant programming languages, must be comfortable reading, modifying, and developing production-quality code Experience with SAP HANA platforms and integration with external systems (WES/WCS) required. Ability to code in various languages and work with scripting, Infrastructure as Code, containerization, deployment, and scalability.
