Variable start times as follows:
Beginning of shifts start from 6:00am to 9:00am, while shifts conclude between 2:30pm and 5:30pm. Weekday and Weekend call- Varies depending on staff availability Position Objective
The Surgical Technologist is a member of the operating room. The position assists surgeons and other surgical staff during the surgical procedure. The Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon, registered nurse, or other surgical personnel and maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field to maximize patient safety. The position ensures that the operating room environment is safe and needed equipment is available. The Surgical Technologist assists in the sterile processing department by performing sterilizing, assembly and storage of medical supplies and surgical equipment.
Essential Responsibilities
Pre-Surgery
Help setup the operating room by ensuring the room is clean, wiped down, and all the equipment/instruments are available and in working order Stock surgical supplies Wash and sterilize all equipment by using germicides and sterilizers Account for needles, suture, sponges, and instruments Assist the Registered Nurse During Surgery
Anticipate the surgeons needs Ensure that there is a sterile field during all surgical procedures Observe and report a break in sterile techniques Operate and assemble lights, suction machines and other types of diagnostic equipment Count sponges, needles, and other supplies before and after all operations Post-Surgery
Clean and restock the operating room Reset up room with equipment and supplies for the next procedure Assist the Registered Nurse Required Qualifications
Completed a post-secondary certification or associate degree in the field of surgical technology Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a similar role Certification Supervisory Responsibilities
Mentor and orient new staff members May supervise Student Scrub Technicians Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of current operating room techniques, procedures, instruments, and supplies
