System Safety Engineer

nnSummary/objective:
nKMS Solutions is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to join our team of engineers providing System and Software Safety engineering to the Ranges, Engineering, and Analysis Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport RI. The ideal candidate will apply engineering and management principles, criteria, & techniques to optimize safety within constraints of operational effectiveness, time, & cost throughout the system life-cycle.

- Research and analyze system design drawings, specifications, manuals, and other data to determine Systems readiness for deployment, from a system safety perspective. n
- Evaluate life cycle test, operation, maintenance and other performance phases of equipment, components, and systems from a system safety perspective. n
- Investigate potential system failures and life cycle hazards and make recommendations to ensure safe and effective operation and deployment and mitigate failure effect and frequency. n
Required education and experience:
n- n
- Ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance. n
- Bachelor’s Degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math field. n
- Ten (10) years of system safety engineering experience, particularly with respect to hazard analysis and failure mode analysis. n
- Experience performing software system safety analysis. n
- Strong understanding of military system safety standards including MIL-STD-882E and NAVSEA 5100.12-M. n
education and experience:
n- n
- Master’s Degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math field. n
- Fifteen (15) years of system safety engineering experience, particularly with respect to hazard analysis and failure mode analysis. n
- Five (5) years of experience performing software system safety analysis. n
- Engineering experience specifically with Navy and/or undersea warfare systems and weapons systems such as torpedoes, mine hunting and warfare systems, and unmanned underseas vehicles (UUVs). n
Competencies:

- Capable of effectively working and problem solving in both independent and team environments. n
- Experience communicating and interacting with, all levels of the customer and company leadership. n
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project. n

nnPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work:
nThe typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. The employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and must account for the hours in a pay period to maintain full-time status.
nnTelework:
nThis is a Hybrid position and may allow for up to 40% telework.
n nTravel:
nUp to 10% CONUS travel may be required.
