Major Responsibilities and Duties:

To help reduce or eliminate speech/language disorders that interferes with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program. To serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement. Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech impaired students. Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language disorders. Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language disorders. Assist with appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student needs and to correct existing speech or language impairments. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities. Provide information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate. Provide in-service education and serve as consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement as needed. Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services. Maintains list of referred, screened, and eligible student, as well as a directory of outside agencies consultants, specialist, and related services. Provide Medicaid supervision to speech pathologists not holding ASHA certification on time per year.
