Weather Forecasting Expert

Actalent is looking for an individual who will serve as the company's expert on weather-related issues that impact operations and infrastructure. Provides forecasts, analysis, and support to help the company prepare for and respond to weather events, including emergencies like wildfires and Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). Helps develop tools to improve forecasting and supports both daily operations and emergency response efforts. Key Responsibilities:

Forecasting & Operational Support (50%) Create and share weather forecasts (short to long-term) to support daily operations and emergency planning. Monitor fire weather risks and lead PSPS meetings when needed. Advise the Watch Office during severe weather events to protect the grid and employee safety. Work with field teams to understand how weather affects equipment and operations. Help build tools to improve forecasting and decision-making. Project & Analytical Support (35%) Assist senior team members with data analysis for projects like fire prevention, hazard modeling, and climate adaptation. Ensure timely delivery of tools and reports to support operations. Learning & Collaboration (15%) Attend weather service meetings to stay updated and improve forecasting skills. Build partnerships with scientific and tech communities to enhance forecasting tools and models. Emergency Response Participate in emergency response activities as needed. Qualifications:

Knowledge & Skills: Strong understanding of how weather affects electric utilities. Experience with statistical analysis, modeling, and GIS. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities. Familiarity with utility operations and emergency response. Preferred Experience: Fire weather forecasting and briefing on weather uncertainties. Forecasting surface temperatures and renewable energy impacts. Using NOAA and NWS tools and running weather models. Experience with statistical tools like SAS or R. Forecasting for Hawaii and wildfire conditions. Long-term weather forecasting and presenting technical findings. Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, or related field (Master's preferred). Experience: 5+ years in weather forecasting and analysis (Master's degree may substitute for 2 years).
