Golf Course Superintendent
The golf course Superintendent is responsible for the construction maintenance and repair of the greens, trees, and plants throughout their assigned golf course. Working closely with the maintenance staff, Superintendents ensure application of fertilizers and pesticides meet all local, state, and federal environmental regulations. The Superintendent must keep accurate records of their activities to convey appropriately to managers, members, and guests. Responsibilities include: Maintaining the golf course in proper playing condition according to company standards Supervising course construction projects and all planting and care of turf, plants, shrubs, and trees Working closely with the operational team to develop and propose a yearly maintenance plan and budget for the golf course. Implementing the approved maintenance plan and adhering to the budget Directing and supervising the maintenance of greens, fairways, tees, sand traps, bodies of water, roughs, maintenance shop and grounds, cart maintenance, and clubhouse maintenance Creating a high-performance team of co-workers while maintaining a positive, safe, challenging, and enjoyable work environment Recruiting, training, developing, and managing staff. Responsible for co-worker satisfaction Identifying and addressing safety issues immediately Conducting monthly safety meeting/training with maintenance staff and recording attendance. Completing safety audit to ensure all issues are addressed Establishing and implementing a maintenance program for appropriate equipment, tools, vehicles, etc. Implementing and monitoring the purchase ordering and receiving program to maintain proper inventories of supplies and ensure proper quantity and price on all purchases Maintaining accurate records to track labor costs, maintenance expenses, construction activities, equipment repair, OSHA safety activities, and fertilizer, chemical, and pest control practices within city, parish, state, and federal guidelines Planning and implementing staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved Supervising and performing equipment repair and maintenance Participating in weekly department head meetings Supervising and performing irrigation scheduling and repairs Assisting in maintaining security of golf course property and buildings Maintaining course character consistent with the rules of golf and maintenance standards Solving technical problems of the golf course maintenance Identifying, implementing, and approving capital improvements Maintaining golf course grounds in an environmentally sensitive way Promoting and following all current and future company and course policies and rules Other duties may be assigned by management Qualifications include: State pesticide license is required GCSAA Certification is preferred Valid drivers license is required Education: 2-year college degree required (4-year bachelors degree preferred) and 3 years of related experience in turf management, agronomy, chemical applications, soils, fertilization, or equivalent combination of education and experience Skills/Abilities/Personal Characteristics: Leading Quality Control Flexibility Verbal and Written Communication Customer Service Resolve Conflict Dexterity Teamwork Resourcefulness Initiative Thoroughness Efficiency Working Conditions include: Days and hours of work vary by schedule and business needs Evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required Special working conditions include but are not limited to a range of circumstances such as sitting or standing for periods of time While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, hear, talk, balance, climb, use hands, use fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and push or pull. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. The associate can be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
