Generate weld procedure and welder qualification records. Must be comfortable working effectively in a manufacturing environment where arc welding (GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW, PTAW) processes are used to produce x-ray quality structural and seal welds. Candidates need a working knowledge of welding metallurgy to use and interpret material specifications. Identify, evaluate, and resolve non-routine welding engineering problems as they relate to nontraditional manufacturing and repair work. The ideal candidate needs to have a mindset to proactively seek out and solve new and difficult welding engineering challenges. Effective communication skills are critical in this role as you will interface across all levels of EMD and customer organizations, both verbally and in written correspondence. Additionally, you will provide technical support and directions to a skilled labor force and Weld Development Lab Technicians in support of materials, joining, testing and evaluation. Due to the nature of the work, done at EMD and the ever-evolving materials available this position will be involved with identifying new and improving welding processes and techniques for our products while ensuring our quality standards. This will include developing and managing materials joining work plans, detailing schedules, budgets, and resource requirements to meet project goals and deadlines. Must be comfortable collaborating with design and manufacturing engineering counterparts to resolve joining issues while providing technical support to all involved parties. Actively interact and participate in meetings to support engineering, manufacturing and program management. These may leverage knowledge in assistance in the review of supplier qualifications and procedures or provide support for audits of suppliers. Is expected to be a leader and mentor to other engineers in areas of expertise and assist with training, evaluation and growth of the welding team. This may include work to plan, support and the execution of procedures and personnel qualifications. Done in accordance with applicable welding codes and contract requirements. What You Bring: A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, or Materials Science is required, with advanced degrees desired. 6+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Knowledge of arc welding processes (FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, SMAW, and PTAW). Knowledge and experience with at least one of the following welding codes (ASME Section III & IX, AWS, and NAVSEA). Candidates should have experience working with various carbon, alloy and stainless steels, along with nickel, and copper-based alloys, in addition to dissimilar metal welding. Must have prior experience as a Welding, Materials, or Manufacturing engineer. Effective communication skills are a must for the composition, and documentation of processes and procedures.
