NBC Boston is seeking a Freelance Assignment Desk Editor. This is a part-time project/limited term position with an estimated duration of up to 8-12 months, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed. Responsibilities include: Enterprise story ideas for coverage and interview subjects Assign crews to news stories and provide support for complete coverage, including research, contact information, phone calls, video etc. Coordinate feeds and media sharing with affiliates Monitor all changing and developing news stories from news wires, social media, scanners, contacts, public relations, phone calls, and viewer suggestions Communicate with production staff and management on the status of coverage and stories Establish network of contacts and sources across the Boston DMA Other duties and responsibilities as assigned Qualifications include: Prior experience at an assignment desk. Prior experience in local news coverage. Strong writing skills Strong research skills. Basic computer skills. Desired qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred Strong resources and contacts in the community Ability to solve problems, prioritize decisions and act decisively under stress and tight deadlines. Strong ability to assign, direct and supervise broadcast news coverage. Ability to gather stories from different platforms Ability to communicate through social media to specific individuals to corroborate stories Ability to search topics on social media and digital platforms Solid news judgment and awareness of local and national news. Must have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with coworkers and community. Eligibility requirements: Able to work any of a 24x7 shift including weekends and overnights depending upon news coverage & able to return to work in emergencies.
