Position Summary:

This position contributes to the fulfillment of Thayer County Health Services vision and mission by providing primary health care in a family practice clinic/ER setting and performing selective medical services under the direction of clinic physicians.

SUPERVISION:

Responsible to Supervising Physician and the Chief Operations Officer

SHIFT:

Exempt-Monday-Friday, No weekends

Salary:

Up to $200,000

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Provider Physician Assistant Program. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants. Minimum 3 years of Family practice and Emergency department experience preferred Current DEA and State of Nebraska Licensure Current ACLS, ATLS and PALS certification or obtain upon hire Must have strong communication skills.

PRINICIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Reviews patient records. Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed. Performs a complete physical exam and records findings. Establishes presumptive diagnosis. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention. Administers injections, immunizations and oral medications. Sutures wounds. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances. Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education. Records patient progress notes and issues diagnostic orders. Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits. Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. Maintains strict patient confidentiality. Performs other duties as needed by the facility.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Knowledge of the professional medical practice and care to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care. Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly Serves as a role model and is committed to meeting ethical, moral and legal obligations Maintains and promotes good health practices. Will conform to TCHS procedures and policies. Will perform all duties as described by the job description within the scope of licensure. Maintains current professional license in accordance with state law. Provides leadership in medical concerns in the absence of the physician. Does not discuss patient matters such as medical treatment, diagnosis or history outside of the clinical setting in; keeping in compliance of HIPAA. Understand and comply with the requirements of Thayer County Health Services’ Compliance Program, including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Manual. All supporting policies for compliance and compliance plans. Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by organizational policy and as requested by supervisor. Demonstrates effective and compassionate communication with patients, visitors, and TCHS staff. Willingly accepts new responsibilities and cooperates with implementation of change.

Dresses in a neat, clean uniform for patient care; maintains high personal hygiene standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in an indoor, smoke-free, climate-controlled environment. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposures to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
