position. This position is open in our Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Madison, Minneapolis, and St. Louis offices.
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for optimizing the Husch Blackwell client journey by driving revenue growth through key client relationships and leading a positive client experience to ensure continued growth and retention. This role partners closely with the Legal Ops team and select CRMs and coordinates directly with legal and administrative team leads on a wide range of shared services.
The BDM also serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert with strong industry and firm knowledge to ensure client development and retention. The BDM will also be responsible for managing and developing assigned Strategist/Specialist to ensure consistency in work product and provide guidance, feedback, and opportunities under the supervision of the Director of Business Development. Essential functions include:
Serve as trusted advisor and first point of contact to Healthcare, Life Sciences, and Education attorneys on all business development activities. Proactively identify business development opportunities. Define, track, and oversee prospect touchpoints throughout the business development pursuit. Identify business development opportunities by educating attorneys on the firm's offerings and value proposition. Evaluate, manage, and execute on pitch, proposal, and RFP opportunities in collaboration with the Proposal Team and BD Specialist. Act as subject matter expert for opportunities in the Healthcare, Life Sciences, and Education industries. Collaborate with Marketing & Design teams to enhance and maintain SBU marketing materials. Collaborate with Events team to execute and oversee key client and prospect events. Using Foundation and other firm intelligence software, create and maintain accurate database of experience for the SBU. Lead key SBU priority practice and working groups. Work closely with practice group leaders to create, manage, and execute on the practice group business plans. In partnership with Marketing teams, ensure SBU initiatives and campaigns are properly executed and align with overall Firm strategy. Support SBU leadership in the onboarding and integration of lateral hires. Collaborate with attorneys and Marketing teams to prepare for industry conferences. This includes fulfilling sponsorship obligations in partnership with the BD specialist, providing client and prospect intel, and conducting pre-and post-conference meetings to capture opportunities and evaluate ROI. In partnership with Research Services and Financial Reporting teams, provide valuable insights to attorneys on firm clients, competitor intelligence, financials, and prospective clients in order to effectively pursue business development opportunities. Manage the production process for developing blogs, client alerts, and other external communications in a timely manner. Manage and mentor BD Specialist. Assist in firmwide training efforts including co-conducting business development workshops such as the Leveling Up Curriculum, PSC presentations, and SBU presentations. Special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements
4-year degree with major coursework in marketing, communications, or related field; or combination of education and commensurate work experience required. 7+ years of solid marketing and business development experience at progressing levels throughout career. Experience in a professional services firm or related organization preferred. 5 years’ management experience in related field preferred. Strong business development abilities required, including setting priorities, planning, organization, follow-through, delegation and negotiation skills; and ability to build, manage and track budgets and analyze ROI. Ability to motivate attorneys to engage in business development and to work with them to develop and implement business development plans. Experience providing a high level of client service to individuals at all levels of an organization. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to write and produce compelling proposals, collateral, research reports and client-facing presentation materials. Must be forward-thinking with proven ability to deliver solutions to complex challenges. High level of maturity and confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients. Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Suite and Internet research tools required; knowledge of InterAction CRM software preferred.

Compensation And Benefits
Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:
State of California: $111,000 - $211,000 State of Colorado: $102,000 - $182,000 State of Illinois: $100,000 - $194,000 State of Massachusetts: $111,000 - $211,000 State of Maryland: $107,000 - $163,000 State of Minnesota: $111,000 - $183,000 Jersey City, NJ: $120,000 - $218,000 State of New York: $103,000 - $223,000 State of Vermont: $109,000 - $210,000 State of Washington: $107,000 - $204,000 Washington, D.C.: $143,000 - $210,000
The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
