Summary
The Data Governance Director is responsible for establishing and overseeing the organization's data governance framework, ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop policies and procedures that promote effective data management practices. The director also leads initiatives to enhance data literacy across the organization, empowering stakeholders to make informed, data-driven decisions. By fostering a culture of accountability and transparency, the Data Governance Director plays a crucial role in maximizing the value of data as a strategic asset.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement the overall data governance strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements. Establish and enforce data governance policies and standards to ensure data quality, security, and compliance across the organization. Collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to promote data governance initiatives and secure buy-in. Oversee data stewardship activities, ensuring that data owners and stewards are effectively managing data assets. Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of data governance initiatives and drive continuous improvement. Identify potential data-related risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring data integrity and security. Provide training and resources to staff on data governance principles, fostering a culture of data literacy and accountability. Ensure that data governance practices comply with relevant laws and regulations, such as GDPR or HIPAA. Implement processes to monitor and improve data quality, addressing issues proactively to maintain high standards. Maintain comprehensive documentation of data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures for transparency and accountability. Lead change management efforts to embed data governance practices into the organizational culture and operations. Prepare and present reports on data governance activities, metrics, and outcomes to senior management and the board of directors.
Work Experience
How You’ll Be Successful:
At least 8 years in a role requiring data governance expertise in a Data and Analytics, Technology, or Healthcare Industry - required
EDUCATION
Four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent experience - required Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience - preferred
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Data Governance, Agile, Project Management, or Lean Six Sigma Certification - preferred
