TransAstra is looking for an experienced Aerospace Engineering Manager to lead and grow a multidisciplinary team developing advanced space systems. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with at least 5 years of experience in mechanical, aerospace, or software engineering who is ready to step into a position of greater ownership and responsibility. You’ll manage engineers across multiple disciplines while also contributing technically—whether in CAD design, systems integration, or code reviews. We’re developing breakthrough technologies in space domain awareness, spacecraft propulsion, and orbital debris removal. If you're excited to build things that go to space and want to lead a small, growing, and fast-moving team tackling hard engineering problems, we want to meet you. Key Responsibilities: Manage and mentor a team of engineers, helping prioritize work and guide development across hardware and software projects Contribute directly to engineering design, analysis, or implementation in your area of expertise (mechanical, aerospace, or software) Lead technical reviews, ensure quality, and help align engineering execution with project goals and timelines Interface across disciplines to ensure tight integration of mechanical, electrical, and software systems Support hiring and team growth by identifying key gaps and helping shape team structure Act as a technical liaison to leadership, communicating progress, risk, and resource needs clearly and regularly Required Qualifications: 5+ years of engineering experience in mechanical, aerospace, or software roles Proven experience managing or mentoring engineers Prior experience launching and operating a satellite or space payload, either as an individual contributor or as part of a mission team. Experience leading cross-functional hardware/software teams Proficiency in one or more of the following: SolidWorks CAD, systems engineering, embedded software, simulations, prototyping, or product development Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals—mechanical or systems design, DFM, testing, and integration U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder (due to export control requirements) Able to work full-time on-site at our facility near Sylmar, CA Preferred Experience: Prior work in the space or aerospace industry End-to-end ownership of successful flight hardware Familiarity with PDM systems, FEA/thermal/CFD tools, or manufacturing techniques Background in spacecraft systems, optics, or propulsion Advanced degree(s) Seniority level
