Full-time Hiring 2 Engineers | Start Date: ASAP About Adapt API
Adapt API is a venture-backed startup reinventing the infrastructure layer for the $2T global Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry. The current state of insurance operations resembles consumer finance before Plaid - fragmented, paper-based, and resistant to change. We're here to change that.
Our mission is to eliminate the busywork from insurance by replacing outdated workflows with modern APIs. Think:
Plaid for Insurance . By enabling seamless data exchange and automation across carriers, we're laying the groundwork for a wave of innovation in insurance technology. About the Role
We're looking for a highly autonomous
Software Engineer (employee #4!)
to join us at the ground floor. You'll play a critical role in shaping our product, team, and technology stack - while working directly with the founders and early customers.
This is a unique opportunity to
own meaningful problems end-to-end , solve hard technical challenges, and lay the foundation of a category-defining product. What You'll Do Design, build, and iterate on a world-class API platform from the ground up. Work directly with early customers to understand workflows, pain points, and integration needs. Architect and implement scalable back-end systems for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery. Collaborate in-person with a tight-knit team to brainstorm, whiteboard, and pair-program solutions. Define and evolve our tech stack - we're language-agnostic and prioritize pragmatism. Help set engineering culture, best practices, and mentorship norms as we grow the team. What We're Looking For Must-Have Experience 4-8 years of backend or fullstack engineering experience, ideally in high-growth startup environments. Strong backend skills with
TypeScript ,
Python , or
Go . Track record of working on
0→1 products
at a venture-backed startup. Experience with
API design , backend pipelines, or integrating external systems. Willingness to solve ambiguous problems and thrive in a fast-paced, in-person team environment. Nice-to-Haves Experience with
Node.js
and
Puppeteer
for web scraping. Experience building data normalization or web automation tooling. Strong product sense and comfort working closely with users and stakeholders. Who You Are A builder with a "figure-it-out" mentality. You've shown rapid progression in your career - e.g., promotion to senior roles or fast-moving startup experience. Highly collaborative: enjoy working through problems live with teammates (pairing, whiteboarding, etc). Prefer to ship quickly without sacrificing quality, and take pride in technical craftsmanship. Who You Aren't Someone looking for a siloed or slow-moving environment. Spent the last 2+ years in a large enterprise setting without exposure to fast iteration or ambiguity. Why Join Us Build from zero:
You'll shape the product and company from the earliest days. Massive market:
The P&C insurance industry is $2T+ and overdue for disruption. Small team, big impact:
Just 6 people today - every decision counts. Competitive comp + meaningful equity. New SF office:
Work in-person with a smart, driven, and supportive team.
