The Airborne Systems Business Area, a part of the Defense Sector at Leidos, has an opening for a cleared Software Development Engineer to join our team at the Beavercreek, OH office. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in supporting the Air Force Research Lab, Air Force Lifecycle Management Center, and other Department of Defense missions. You will play a key role in developing cutting-edge solutions through software design, hardware integration, laboratory experimentation, and testing. YOUR CHALLENGE (core responsibilities) Design, develop, and maintain mission-critical software that supports national defense and intelligence gathering initiatives for both airborne and ground systems.

Participate in laboratory, ground, and flight testing to validate software functionality.

Document and articulate proposed software solutions with integrated, cross-functional engineering teams in a dynamic, technical environment.

Stay current with state-of-the-art programming techniques and software technologies.

Engage in software design and code reviews to ensure the delivery of high-quality products and foster continuous skill enhancement.

WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT (essential qualifications) Bachelor's degree with 4-8 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with 2-4 years of experience in software engineering, computer engineering, or a related field. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Java, or Python.

Experience with systems integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting complex system challenges.

Familiarity with Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) environments.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging in informal discussions or small group settings.

Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, capable of managing multiple concurrent tasks.

Eagerness to learn and grow with new technologies.

Must be a US Citizen.

Eligibility to obtain and maintain a top-secret security clearance.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications Active DoD TS/SCI clearance.

Knowledge of Agile methodologies, particularly SCRUM or Kanban.

Experience with Atlassian tools, including JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket.

Experience with simulation environments to support testing and evaluation.

Familiarity with Live and Virtual Constructive environments to enhance understanding of complex systems.

Understanding of DoD Open Architectures such as OMS and SOSA.

Experience with containerization technologies like Docker or Podman.

Experience with Kubernetes.

Background in developing and deploying solutions to offline environments.

Proficient understanding of Linux systems.

Experience with Unit Testing and CI/CD practices.

Strong grasp of IP-based network protocols, including TCP, UDP, and HTTP.

Previous experience working with the DoD.
